This poll seems to be based on the illogical premise that the two can be seperated.

    oldnoob

You can’t have one without another. Civilian has gun so we can keep our government honestly when counting our votes!

    WistfulD

I’m sad that you honestly believe that.

(not in a “I think you’re stupid” kind of way, more of a “I’m really jaded and think you’re naive and overly optimistic” kind of way)

    Inpho Sys

I’m moving from WA to CA next year. I will bring my guns with me!

    oldnoob

First, I’m sorry. Second, join Calguns.net. It’s a CA gun forum. We can help you to on all your questions about CA stupid/illogical gun laws.

    monkeybird02

Why are you usually pretty ashamed to be an American?

    timjim81

Looks pretty balanced to me. Don’t be ashamed, be proud to live in a place that encourages difference of opinion.

    Insanely Rational

The right to bear arms is desirable to people who want to solve their own problems by themselves. The right to vote is desirable to people who want others to solve their problems for them.

Those who want the right to vote but don’t care about bearing arms assume that the whole point of having a government is to keep things running peacefully and smoothly so you don’t have to behave like a mad gunfighter in a western movie every second of your life.

Those who want the right to bear arms but don’t care about the right to vote assume that if the government doesn’t behave the way they want them to behave, they’ll just shoot them and get a new government, so voting is moot since they can get things done their way at gun point if necessary.

/not taking sides, just analyzing them

    gx5000

    That’s a great response dude…..
Lord knows that every country without those Gun laws have bad gov’s.
It’s amazing that at ANY moment, the American Public can rise up
and defeat the governement in a Armed conflict….lolz
You guys should read up on Waco and get lives….geebus.

    WistfulD

Probably the original intent of the 2nd amendment. Still, the days where average citizens with firearms being able to overthrow the government are long gone. What’s your freeking rifles going to do against an army that has fighter jets and tanks? No, the government can be overthrown by voting them out of office. The problem people have and the reason why we seem to have a bomb-shelter building movement/militia movement/tea party movement every decade or so is because we have a political system that forces us to choose between only two choices that don’t accurately reflect what most people want.

    TheLotusEater725

I would hardly consider the Waco Incident representative of a persons right to bare arms and how that in turn affects their ability to defend themselves from the government. David Koresh and the Branch Davidians were not an organized militia. The whole reason the government went in was because they were afraid of them converting their LEGALLY PURCHASED stockpiles of ar-15’s into Full auto M-16’s.

    gx5000

My point was that the second amendment is moot.
No one is going to beat the British off or down a gov…
The only reason to own a Hand gun is for self defense, and if it’s thatbad in your neighbourhood, maybe renting a U-Haul is a better value.

    Awesome1

Pro gun is good. Ever see Red Dawn? Ever see a zombie movie? Tell me you watched zombieland and didnt wish you had an arsenal a la Reba in Tremors. Gun laws don’t protect people

    The Matrix: Rebooted

Getting political ideas from bad action movies is how Ah-nold became governator. Not a good idea.

    oldnoob

This poll obviously have a hidden agenda. Let’s start a poll, choose between two of these, “loose your two nuts” and “freedom of fucking speech”.

That don’t mean we want one any less than other.

    Kishi

Actually, I think by choosing one, you’re saying you’d want the other less. That’s who questions work.

    Error401

Why no poll data for Alaska and Hawaii? That alone makes this “poll” invalid.

How about losing neither? I like having my rights, even if I do not exercise them.

    TheLotusEater725

    This^^^

Anyone who gives up their right to vote to protect their right to protect themselves or vice-versa deserves neither rights.

    dtepes

Votes don’t mean a thing in WV so who cares. Elections have literally been bought by whiskey and chips in one county so there’s a good reason for the jadedness.

    nyoki

    What are you talking about?

    dtepes

It was many years ago in the Southwestern counties. I want to say Logan or Lincoln. There were all kinds of allegations, and proof of some, of the smaller local elections being bought with whiskey, chips and maybe $20. Something similar happened in Indiana too iirc.

Heck, right now there’s voting fraud happening this election in Lincoln county. Absentee vote tampering and it’s not even the day to vote yet. Check WCHS or WOWK’s websites for their stories on it.

    nyoki

I know you’re not allowed to sell liquor on Election Day in WV, precisely for the reasons you stated, but that was way more than a few years ago.

    dtepes

No clue when it was to be honest. It’s one of those things I remember hearing about but not really with a frame of reference as to when. It happened back when I had even less interest in politics than I do now. I should have said at least a decade back, but stuff like that leaves a taint.

    rainman97361

The right to vote AND own guns are 2 of the most endearing things that make us Americans.
Oriahna, if you’re “usually pretty ashamed to be an American”, I suggest you move to a country you can be proud of. I suggest Russia or Venezuela. Putin or Chavez would be happy to add you to the crowd already under their thumb.

    WistfulD

I am continuously amazed by people who think ‘if you don’t like it here, move somewhere else’ is a logical response to someone’s complaints about the status quo wherever they are. Is it not possible that people could have legitimate complaints about something in their city/state/nation/etc and wish to urge people to change? Is that not a valid position to take?

    natedog

    THIS^^

    rebelyell2006

If the status quo does not need correcting, then it is irritating to listen to people demand its corruption through “reform”. But you are right, it does not logically follow that such “reformers” should be expelled for disliking the status quo.

    nyoki

The status quo can be perfect?

    rebelyell2006

No, but often the critics of the status quo target elements that do not need changing.

    nyoki

I think that regardless of the status quo, there will be people that oppose it.

    monkeybird02

I’m curious as to what country you’d be less ashamed to be from, and why.

    flagrantfowl

They frown on you because your American? That’d make me happy. Tell them to fuck off because you can do that in America and not get in trouble. If you posted that you were ashamed of your country, in another country, you’d probably be killed or tortured or both.

And I’m assuming your Female. For that alone, you should be proud to be an American. At least you have rights.

    flagrantfowl

    fuck. You’re. dammit.

    v0id

Rights?! I loled. A country where Banks, Oil and weapon (sorry Defense system) corporations influence most the government’s decisions, can’t be characterised as democratic, and the people who live there, have as many rights as the want them to have.

    v0id

Welcome to the magnificent world of generalization…

    v0id

You are a TRUE American as most of the world conceives one. Americans like you make the rest of the world hate USA. Ignorant son of a bitch who thinks that the world is his. I bet you don’t even know your own history…

    Joeseph Goebbels

I wish I was american, I want a gun which relies on more than air.

    Gilly

Either the government won’t turn violent against its own people, because it’s the people that comprise the armed forces, or they have some kind of super-soldier-program running, and then dinky little rifles and shotguns won’t save anyone anyways.

    That said, neither matter.

    Kishi

Oh, merciful christ, this is a depressing image. It took me a minute to realize this was a survey result.

    Erin

America, fuck yeh. At least I know those gun-toting patriotic morons are too self-involved to ever leave their own country, or even learn about others. ‘I believe fear-mongering NRA bullshit artists the spew forth statistics to justify my irrational fear of people just like myself!
The world is flat y’all!’ *cocks rifle*

    TheLotusEater725

Wow. It’s really funny to see prejudiced douchebags rip on other people for being “morons”

I bet you think the south is primarily composed of Klan members as well.

    Erin

    nah, just idiots.

    nyoki

    Well, they are. 😉

    monkeybird02

Really? Are you sure about that? Or is that just what you want to believe? And, um, you guys in Ohio are the cream of the fucking crop?

    RocketSurgeon

Waco hardly compares to an armed and educated populace. Thinking of arms simply as guns puts you more and more like a cable/paper company ignoring the internet.

The U.S. was founded on dissent, and wanting to change the nation in some way is usually a part of it’s national pride. Here we can be proud to not be proud. That’s the right we should all be defending.

This chart is designed to mislead and instigate. As someone said above, willingness to lose one to save the other doesn’t denote any less desire for the one traded in.

The crux here is empowered citizens. Giving up either is unacceptable. The same goes for free information and expression like we’re doing here.

    v0id

You really believe that USA represents what your founding fathers wanted to represent?

    Thrella

I don’t see why people think outlawing guns is going to do anything. Having come from Brasil, where guns are outlawed, I can guarantee it is VERY easy to get your hands in a gun, whether or not the government is efficient at controlling them, and by personal experience, I know it is also incredibly easy to get a hold of an illegal gun in the U.S.A too.

There’s no point in Outlawing guns. People in the U.S use guns more than they vote, which might explain why some people are so resistant against outlawing guns rather than voting.

    Hm. My 2 cents.
    1) I vote. I don’t vote by Dem or Repub, or by who the NRA, NBC, NAACP,OMI,CNO,IRA or any other alphabet jumble of so-called experts tells me who I should vote for. I go by past criminal and political record, and who sounds like they are pandering the least. I also vote on issues, ordinances, propositions and bonds that fall in line with my interests. If they do not, I vote NO. And because of that wonderful voter apathy I am optimistic that my vote does count.
    2) I own guns. I do know that outlawing guns does not get rid of the problem. D.C. New York Chicago L.A. Juarez Hong Kong meh. As long as humans is human, there will be a bad element. Do I keep ’em to overthrow the gubbmint? Nope. I was military, there is no way what I am able to pay for can match what the local authorities can throw at me let alone the Feds. But I will not let go my right to self-defense. Just one of the reasons I left California and went home to New Mexico. (the others being keeping more of my pay for myself and lower cost of living.)Guns in the hands of responsible people is the grail, but responsibility and common sense are pretty rare these days.

    Phyreblade

This is pretty much my position…
