  5. It’s the arrogance of Christians that gets to me the most. They assume that, if we don’t believe as they do, that it’s because we’ve never heard their beliefs. They assume that, despite the couple THOUSAND different Christian sects, they and they ALONE know the real truth. How are we to take them seriously if they can’t agree on what their god wants? Reality check. Lumped all together there are about 2 billion Christians in the world. There are some 6.6 billion people in the world. You’re outnumbered. Get over it.

    • HEY… respect! The god of christianity is the one and only one true god, becaaaaaaause (drum roll): HE says so. That makes your argument invalid, and you, stupid. So the god of christianity and jesus don’t love you, and thus, you’re going to hell.
      Have a nice trip FUCKER.

      • … And another who believes in a different god who claims to be the only god has equally as valid of an argument.

And reality check, v0id, the “Christian” God is the same God as the Jewish one and the Islamic one. He’s not a singular, special God only to one religion; Jesus was not His only contribution to mankind.

        • Since I am not that smart, what I understood from what you said, is that there is one god, and there are many religions around him? I mean, jewish, christians, muslims believe in the same god (yahweh or god or allah), but they believe in different ways?

          Reply
          • Yes, but that only holds for the Judeo-Christian religions. (Islam, Christianity, and Judaism). There are other deities in other religions that are not western/middle eastern based. Should one believe that they are the true gods, their arguments for their gods being as legitimate and the Christian one are equally as valid.

And Christianity and Judaism start with a polytheistic mind set. Linguistically, “thou shalt have no other gods before me” implies that there were other gods that could have come before Yahweh in the first place, and merely requests that other deities take a back seat. Indeed, when the ancient Israelites conquered other nations, they believed that Al Shaddai was stronger than the god of those conquered. The ancient Jews just took the unique mind set, after they were conquered, that instead of their God loosing to their new rulers, God was punishing and angry at them (ergo still only acknowledging God as the strongest god, but merely believing they’d fallen out of His favor).

          • So which god did I make angry and got all those negative votes?

          • You’re having too much fun…please to continue.

    Reply
    • Well, I hate them, so if I am created by him in his own image, then I guess that he hates them too. BUT, tiki apparently loves reposts, so If he is created in god’s own image, then god would like reposts. Thus, God likes and hates reposts.

  10. It’s the arrogance of Atheists that gets to me the most. They assume that, if they don’t believe as we do, that it’s because we’ve never heard their beliefs. They assume that, despite the massive amount of proof of the Bible’s accuracy, they and they ALONE know the real truth. How are we to take them seriously if they can’t actually look into the thing they blindly trash? Reality check. Lumped all together there are about 2 billion Christians in the world. There are some 6.6 billion people in the world. It started with only 12 dudes… I think it’s catching on.

(I sometimes really love myself. This is one of them…)

      Reply
      • What makes you assume that he isn’t living life to their fullest? That’s rather presumptuous don’t you think? I mean i don’t assume atheists are atheist because they have some vendetta against god for an unanswered prayer or because they were raped by priests. I believe in a god and contrary to the popular misconception I’m not living in mortal fear of my soul being damned. This is why atheists get stereotyped as arrogant or smug. Generalizations like that are only going to make things worse for all of us and impede mutual respect and understandings.

        Reply
        • 1. I am not atheist, I just can’t possibly know if god exists. I shall find out when I die.
          2. I shouldn’t have written “You can accept that god exists”. What I should have written is something about accepting whichever religion as the only true religion, while not respecting the beliefs of others and thus living a life full of obstacles (eg. Don’t eat pork, Don’t fuck on sunday, etc etc).
          3. as I said earlier, I don’t know if god exists, and I actually don’t care at the moment. I do know though that religions are a human and not a godly creation (unless proved otherwise), so I cannot accept the god of any religion.

    • You forget how many of the ancestors of the 2 billion people currently calling themselves Christians were FORCED into Christianity with threats of eternal damnation, torture, or even death if they didn’t. That is why Christianity is so popular these days. However, I think the numbers are declining in this age of information. It’s harder to keep people ignorant of all the other beliefs out there, and Christians are no longer allowed to torture and kill people for not being Christian. As for the accuracy of the bible, that is definitely up for debate. What happened to Jesus between the ages of just after birth-30 years old? What was his life like? Those are the major formative years. Also, the phrase “Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live” is different in different versions. The Jerusalem Bible uses the word sorceress, but in the ancient texts is written a word that actually meant “poisoner”. I don’t believe that it is an isolated incident, and that one mis-interpretation of the old texts was used as an excuse for many murders in the name of “God”. It stands to reason that there are others.

Because I am open to outside-the-box thinking, I am willing to give you the benefit of the doubt and evaluate your theory based on it’s merits, rather than dismissing it out of hand. Can you send me an example where Jesus accurately predicts known experimental results? Also, what experiments would you posit to prove or disprove Jesus? I eagerly await your reply.

    • Can you send me an example where Jesus accurately predicts known experimental results?
I could say one example was him predicting he would die and then come back to life; and he did that. But that’s only believable if the stories of those times are believable. One argument is, if he really was dead, wouldn’t non-believers have simply produced his dead body to the early followers? “Hey he didn’t rise from the dead, here’s his body.” Of course some would argue that there was no body to begin with – the person of Jesus was just made up a few centuries later; historians have debated about this, and a bunch of other arguments for/against what really happened. I don’t have definite proof of what happened; I don’t think anyone does.
      Experiments to prove/disprove Jesus:
As far as if he actually existed, scholars quote other texts written after Jesus which make reference to him, as evidence that he was a real person. Here’s some non-Bible references:
      www.spotlightministries.org.uk/historicaldeityofjesus.htm
      www.bible.ca/H-trinity.htm
Though of course then some argue whether those references are accurate, whether those writers were mislead, etc
As far as if he claimed to be God, or was God, or if he came back to life, or performed miracles; those same early writers make reference to Jesus as being God or a son of God or a diety. Of course an argument could be – those early writers were just repeating what the early believers had written and made up, and just attributing deity to Jesus afterwards…
I don’t think it can be known for sure that the biblical accounts are accurate, since none of us were there. It’s a matter of deciding if they are reliable enough – if the historical evidence points to the Bible being valid, or not. There are debates available – one I watched was Was Jesus a Myth? Parts 1 & 2 on youtube.
Basically where I am at is, I’m choosing to believe one way based on the limited evidence I have seen so far. I haven’t come across anything where I can convince anyone (or myself) with certainty.
(I could have PM’d you but I don’t know how)

  19. I would think we believe what we are told, not what we have experienced. Or perhaps, because of what we were told, we could bend our experiences to “relate” what we our told. The kids born into uber christian families tell me to give myself to (their) God. The kids born into uber muslim families tell me there is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is his prophet. The kids who are born into non-religious families tell me to get a job, start a family and enjoy life. I like that, and it’s exactly what I’m doing. BTW this weekend there is a new program, on discovery I believe, from Steven Hawking. That guy right there is a smart MoFo, and I am far more inclined to listen to his ideas about the how and why of life. A couple dudes showed up at my door the other day, wanting me to read their “holy” book and give it some thought. I told them I would if they in turn watched a program on how life came out with me. They declined. Always wanting to share their ideas, never allowing to listen to someone else’s.

“Ignorance is preferable to error, and he is less remote from the truth who believes nothing than he who believes what is wrong.”

-Thomas Jefferson (Notes on Virginia, 1782)

And the day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the supreme being as his father in the womb of a virgin will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerve in the brain of Jupiter. But may we hope that the dawn of reason and freedom of thought in these United States will do away with this artificial scaffolding, and restore to us the primitive and genuine doctrines of this most venerated reformer of human errors.

    • The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were. . . . the general principles of Christianity. . . . I will avow that I then believed, and now believe, that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God; and that those principles of liberty are as unalterable as human nature.
