We don’t wanna go to war today,
But the lord of the lash says: nay, nay, nay!
Were gonna march all day, all day, all day!
Where there’s a whip, there is a way.

Total War is fun for the first few battles. But the AI is so frickin’ dumb it gets repetitive fast. Never beat the campaigns because its just move your army up, siege for a few turns, wait for the dumbasses to charge out, repeat literally 50 times.

It gets tricky if you do not have a steady source of money, and it gets far trickier when you consider diplomacy and overall strategy. Who to ally with, how to maintain those alliances, when to turn on the allies, and how to conquer the enemies without having the entire world against you. I once played a Greek Cities campaign in which everybody except the Gauls, Iberians and Bactrians were at war with me. Even the Armenians were blockading my ports for some reason, even though I did not share any common borders.

You didn’t want to be here? I didn’t want to be here either! Look at these shoes, I only had them for three months and the heel’s all worn off!
