Where your money goes when you buy a video game

I hate to know that EA will get that much money from me when I buy BC2 on Tuesday.

    BC 2 demo did not impress me.

    Of course, that’s gross profit not net. Modern video games cost around $25 million to make, if not more. EA would need to sell just a little under a million just to make a net profit.

    The retailer comes out better, but running a shot is expensive, too. They’re probably only making $5 net profit per cartridge.

    I bought BC2 two days ago for my 360. Probably one of my most favorite games multiplayer-wise. If you hit somebody with a sniper round they die, not like in MW2 where you hit them with a .50 and they keep running.

    I hate EA and generally boycott them, but I knew this was going to be a good game. Fucking you can demolish everything, from bushes to buildings.

    Reviewers I trust (and who refuse to take money from EA) said it somehow managed to be worse than Modern Warfare 2.
    Besides, I’m still busy with Mass Effect 2, and have two others games waiting in their boxes.

    Makes me wonder how much profit Blizzard Entertainment is seeing from my 3 years of Warcraft Subscription. Not to mention the $100+ I have spent on Vanilla Wow, BC, Wrath, 1 server xfer with 2 toons ($50.00 total there), plus the $20.00 I have spent on the digital downloads.

    $14.99 a month x 36 = $539.00
    2 character server transfers =$50.00
    Digital Downloads x2 =$20.00

    I agree.
    Be interesting to know what cut of the Publishers slice that the Developer gets. 50/50 if Developer is lucky. Probably much worse, since publisher has all the power.

    If it bothers you (as it would me), DON’T BUY IT!
    Surely there must be some other shooter or game that would entertain you.
    I partially boycott EA and Activision – if they make a game I really want to play, I’ll only get it used, on console. That’s what I plan to do with BC2 and MW2.
    But thanks for the chart, I find this interesting.

    I didn’t buy MW2 because of the IWnet bullshit for PC and decided to get BC2 instead because at least it had dedicated servers.

    I’m enjoying BC2, short but decent single player and when you get a team that aren’t idiots and are all sniping the multiplayer can be great. The bad stuff is the server browser which is just terrible and there are problems sometimes logging into EA which mean you can’t play online. Good game when you can play it, botched release.
