Keyword there: ANCIENT. That’s what they used to believe. Everyone had whacky beliefs about what the earth and universe were like in ancient times. Most don’t believe that now. Sadly, only “most”.

Actually they didn’t really believe it. Think of it as a stylized version. It’s a theological map.
