i have a hard time believing none of this is owned by america
January 19, 2010 at 9:51 am

Most national debt is held by domesticly, but the chart does specify foreign holders, so it is technically correct to leave that out.
January 19, 2010 at 10:58 pm
That’s 1.38 trillion out of 10 trillion. Foreign investors own 14% of the debt.

Most of the national debt is. Roughly 70%, and that’s mostly owned by the government, something called intra-governmental debt.
If you’ve ever got a bond from your grandmother for a birthday, you own part of the national debt.

How could we have gone from irrational exuberance to being significantly owned by communists? Who spent all we had and sold our country? Out Foxed once is more than enough.

my russian roommate and I lol’d out asses off to see USA owes Russia 390 million
January 19, 2010 at 10:52 pm
Well, you do understand that what this really means is that the Russians put some of their money into the very stable U.S. Currency bonds market to stabilize their own economy. Nothing is quite such a sure thing than the U.S. will need to borrow money (and with the exception of last year, never verges on defaulting).

Which countries which own America’s Debt? What kind of sentence is that?
January 19, 2010 at 11:15 pm
the right kind? what about it do you not like? what countries own america’s debt? looks like all the plurals and singulars are in the right place.
January 20, 2010 at 1:44 am
Which countries (which?) own…?
January 19, 2010 at 11:11 pm
OK, this chart really doesn’t make any sense.
$3,428 million is 3.4 billion. China own $1.6 trillion. Is that first number actually billions, not millions?
January 19, 2010 at 11:19 pm
only if the billions is closer to millions than trillian, but I didn’t have to tell you that, right?
