    That`s Operation Crossroads.The ships are placed to see what effect a nuclear weapon would have on them.And it was NOT a “hydrogen bomb”.This two part test was in (air burst,undersea detonation)was in 1946.The fusion weapon was not tested until 1952 (Ivy Mike).

      And on all those ships, there was also livestock. The carcasses are in a small crater on one of the islands covered with a concrete dome. Got to love the discovery channel.

    Actually this is Shot Baker (Came after shot Able) of Operation Crossroads, as has already been mentioned. The documentary ‘Trinity and Beyond’ has some pretty good footage of the whole thing.
