As beautiful as these pics look and as a person who contracted viral meningitis from a bite many years ago all I see and can say when looking at these pics is “Fucking Mosquitoes!”

No! There were no mosquitoes here. Lots of ticks, though. I got Lyme disease again this summer, but it was worth it.
This is Swallow Falls (lol) State Park in western Maryland…
We had a mother black bear and her cubs come by our campsite every night around 5:30, just sit there and stare. It was wonderful.
I would not qualify that as ‘wonderful’.

Black bears are kind of small.
Mountain lions are scary. Black bears usually just kind of wander off.
Also: Yes it was an AMAZING place to light up… Absolutely breathtaking.
I want to live in a world where I can enjoy this, but also have a 10mb connection.

I lost my shoes in that water… saved someone from drowning (well, exhaustion drowning, I’m no lifeguard) under one of the falls… the one with the big towering rock things you have to jump out to get to and smashed the side of my face on a third occasion when my dog tried to go faster up stream than I could. 🙂
OK – maybe its just me, but when someone says s/he is working as a naturalist – does that mean they are naked? Makes you wonder why there are no people in any of the pictures.
@etad52 Nah, no naked-ness as a Naturalist, it’s basically an outdoor educator but with a more fun title.

@Tiki We were armed with KNOWLEDGE. Also, we had a bunch of blades, and a lot of the kids we were working with are from West Baltimore, so god knows what kind of shit they smuggled out there… We had two stabbings this summer within our campers.

Damn. For a second there I thought that fourth picture was a bridge and thought “My, what a wonderful summer cottage that would make. No sign of goats either.”
Don’t know about bears that end of the USA, but the bears here in New Mexico (personal experience with the brown that lives out at the ranch)is that it will run away from a noisy ape. And won’t stick around a bunch of quiet ones standing around watching it.
