damn, is that a visual effect there, or are those actual light beams hitting it?

‘et fone hom’ looks vaguely latin. E.T. phone home does not. This picture looks awesome.

Waste
Of
Money
(Pity Solar panels cost more then they produce – someday – but the technology is not there yet)

STFU

yeah stfu. We need to keep working at it, so we might as well practice.

Those aren’t solar panels man.

Those aren’t solar panels. Know what you’re talking about before trying to sound clever.

these are reflector mirrors, right? they reflect heat towards molten salt which powers a generator or something to that effect. that shit is awesome.

Here’s what I wonder and I figure someone here knows if it’s a stupid idea or has merit.
What if you put solar panels, even large mirrors, underneath windmills? Would the panels create enough heat driven breezes to move the windmill blades sufficiently to create electricity?

i think for that to work you’d want a surface painted black, with something isolating it from beneath.
also, no, i dont think it would work. Windmills are high for a reason, you need to get a fair bit up there for steady winds.
@ GrandAdmiralPrawn : Actually, energy, or electricity is not money.
costs can be calculated in so many ways. go go science to get us sum panels that are awesomer.

I dont understand why we’re not getting more use out of solar furnaces. Parabolic reflectors are the shit.
