  1. Which is one reason why America is not #1.

  2. I call shenanigans. What about interest on the debt? How about transfer payment? Social security? Medicare? Defense and the war are less than 22%, while Social Security, Medicare/SCHIP, transfer payments, and interest are 60%.

  3. This completely BS. Social Security, Medicare, Federal aid for State Medicare and General Welfare make up over 50% of the 2009 fiscal budget for the United States.

    • Again, look up the difference between discretionary spending and mandatory spending.
Have you every earned a paycheck? Did you look at it and wonder who is FICA and why is he taking your money? Social Security and Medicare run by the federal government but are financially separate.

    • Seriously… I don’t mean to call you retarded, but…

      ARE YOU FUCKING RETARDED?

These are very easy figure to look up. It’s not like someone can make this shit up. Fuck, how much Fox News have you been watching? The government releases these figures all the time!

  4. The OP doesn’t distinguish between discretionary and non-discretionary spending and misleading. Any reasonable discussion of the US budget needs to account for all spending, not just discretionary spending.

    • Why? There’s nothing that can be done about them (unless we are willing to renege on money already promised to people). Discretionary spending can be altered. I suppose we should discuss mandatory spending in terms of whether or not to add new kinds of mandatory spending (should we continue to increase the national debt, should we have alter healthcare this way or that, etc), but when it comes to spending we can eliminate or not, the pie chart is representative and (as near as my pie chart estimation skills can tell) is accurate. Maybe the chart doesn’t give the information YOU want to talk about, but it is valid information with a legitimate purpose. You want to talk about TOTAL spending? Find the graph for that and submit it. It won’t be hard to find.

  5. Hey, check that out, no source!

  6. The graph should say “Discretionary spending” and not just “Budget.” And it has no source, or what year. And no Afghanistan. And no federal law enforcement (unless that’s mandatory spending, I’m not sure).

  7. Oh look, a shitstorm. Didn’t see THAT coming.
