Baud. A term that I have not used in many years. My first modem was 300 baud. Gives a whole new meaning to ‘slow’.

I used a JCat modem on my old Atari 400 – 300 baud was the FAST setting.
I wrote my own terminal emulator so I could connect to the mainframe at college from home rather than wait for a terminal in the computer room. It was at least faster than you could type.
