Wow, the new Keith Ledger version of the Joker was very very popular, so it must be a real honour for Obama, and it shows just how popular Obama really is. And why not? He’s gotten more good done in the first 6 months of his presidency than Bush did his entire life. No wonder the kids now use the word “Obama” in place of “cool”. That’s so Obama!

We’re already socialist. Free police, schools, fire and rescue. Farm subsidies too. This argument is not only stupid, it’s irrelevant.
August 10, 2009 at 3:42 pm
dyna-mole …don’t forget social security, welfare, unemployment, food stamps, bailouts. Even the US budget is socialist, they take tax money from all and use it to pay across the country. My tax dollars go to fund roads in like Alabama becasue that state can’t afford it, or school books for kids in Montana… that is socialism. Oh but not medical care, that’s crossing the line you red bastards!
August 11, 2009 at 9:18 am
I think the concern is the current “socialism” in the US cost the average US family (of 4) 12% in federal income taxes, where the Canadian “socialism” is 21%. The not even counting the taxes and fees the Canadian Provincial government charge in comparison to the US. The problem is socialist countries don’t have enough money left over to defend themselves and base their nation defense on the US to come to the rescue. Which won’t be an option if the US goes to the Canadian system.
Got the numbers from here, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxation_in_Canada, www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/ndvdls/fq/txrts-eng.html and www.metrolittlerockalliance.com/overview/economics/taxes/state-comparison.aspx

Hey guys in Canada (british columbia not alberta), if you rounded up my provincial, municipal and federal taxes: income, toll, sales, and value added, I was paying about 40%: My sister the accounted added it up, but she pointed out that I drank and smoked a lot so my excise was pushing me well ahead of the average Canadian.
Here in China I don’t pay federal taxes I am an immigrant: totally legit and everything. I think provincial and municipal works out to the equivalent of 10$ usd a month, and maybe not enough percent of my salary to notice?
Two things guaranteed in life my ass.

@AlecDalek on August 10, 2009 @ 2:50 pm
OK, my opinion aside, you have to admit your nose is about three feet up the President’s ass there.
August 10, 2009 at 5:58 pm
I also heard he’s going to kill all the old people.
August 10, 2009 at 6:15 pm
It’s true! It’s true!
He’s a democratically elected politician, and he thinks that killing constituents that nobody cares about will go unnoticed by most and those that do notice will only find themselves loving Obama more.
Oh, and the AARP is a small group of ignorant old ladies in a nursing home in Oklahoma who can’t read anything anymore, and that’s why they aren’t leading the protests against this thing.
…um
…where’s that paragraph symbol thingy?

Only ’cause you’re too young to know better.
August 10, 2009 at 6:56 pm
EVERY VARIANT OF THIS IS FUNNIER AND TRUER THAN ITS PRIOR YOU SCARED-OF-CHANGE FGGTS
August 10, 2009 at 7:10 pm
This trolling will backfire.
If the idea that Obama is a Socialist sticks in people’s heads, and the economy improves enough over the next 3 years to re-elect him, then people will actually become more favorable to real socialism, which Obama is not.
It’ll become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
By all means, go ahead. It’s making as much of a difference as the Teabagging Parties and Obama’s birth certificate movement.
August 10, 2009 at 7:26 pm
That would be pretty awesome. I think I’ll go make a bunch of Obama=socialist macro images.
August 10, 2009 at 11:07 pm
This is why we can’t have nice things.
August 10, 2009 at 11:15 pm
this is the dumbest bit of webcrap ever.
protip: if /b/ thinks it is relevant, cool, interesting, intelligent, appropriate for normal human consumption, then it just simply isn’t. Execption that proves the rule?
Tits.
August 11, 2009 at 10:44 am
… because dissing 4Chan makes you SOOOOOO cool.
August 11, 2009 at 12:18 pm
who’s dissing?
that’s practically 4chan’s job as the webgutter.
I visit it all the time, usually for boobs and a laugh- anyone who tries to take anything found there seriously is in dire need of a personality overhaul.
furthermore,
“dissing?”
August 11, 2009 at 10:41 pm
What exception is proving (testing) what rule?
August 12, 2009 at 8:41 am
ah- sorry- the rule is: if /b/ finds it stimulating, cool , or appropriate for human consumption, then it isn’t. The exception to this is their celebrated enthusiasm for boobs, which are, of course, representative of all the best parts of the human experience.
August 16, 2009 at 6:31 pm
I know what you meant, but you aren’t using the prove correctly. In the case of the phrase “the exception proves the rule”, proves is being used like “proving ground”, (i.e. testing). So it’s the exception that tests the rule.
August 16, 2009 at 7:40 pm
interesting.
i’ve never bothered to specify- it’s far too tedious putting a [sic] in front of colloquialisms, figuratively speaking. I’ve always treated the “prove” in that statement as saying: “proof or evidence of the existence of a rule” which is what the general public understands it to mean. Though completely at odds with the rules of logic that the statement originates from, the phrase basically means that if you can find a single exception to an established rule, it somehow authenticates the rule.
In other words, my use of the statement is wrong, but appropriate. Since you already knew that, because everyone knows that, I assume that you have a personal peeve about the phrase and/or others like it and were using a roundabout method to criticize?
ps: I’m not %100 on alignment classifications, but I fall somewhere on the Chaotic end of the spectrum when it comes to grammar, spelling, language and communication in general. I punctuation nazi when it’s bound to get a rise, I chameleon my vocabulary to suit the setting, i make up words because someone has to, I verb nouns, and was excommunicated from the Church of the Dali Comma for being “impeccably insane” along with demanding that she admit to the rest of the class that the Transcendentalists were on nifty hallucinogens.
In other words, i love the rules, love breaking them, and remain completely shameless about both.
What do you think, Chaotic Neutral? Can you be Evil as it pertains to grammar? I’d say Good, but I’m pretty sure I violated some sort of moral code when I used “sesquipedalian” at a fourth grader.
