Muhammad Ali, one of the greatest modern boxers and greatest Americans, became a Sufi Muslim (one of less offensive Islamic denominations). Mainstream Muslims, Sunni and Shiite, consider Sufism heretical and would not only considered him not a “true” Muslim, but under Sharia law, Muhammad Ali could have been put to death and his wealth taken. Good thing he didn’t live, or box, in a Muslim community.
