As for the mail box, I live in one of those places where the Post Office is too lazy to bring the mail all the way to your house, so they put up clusters of boxes somewhere in the vicinity of all the houses in that neighborhood. For me, that’s a few miles away. I’m joking about the lazy part… I’m sure it’s more likely that they under-staff the carriers so that there’s just too much to do for one person. The town is growing fast (don’t know why since there’s little here beyond natural gas), and the communities are spread way the hell out.

@NoOneInParticular: Ah but that's something different. I can understand when people actually require things like this, but for the most part it's just an over priced accessory, from what I've seen. And then there's massive bullshittery, like that one picture of a woman on one of these electronic scooter thingies, except you can stand on them, and she was pushing a stroller while riding it. A fricken stroller with a child in it! As for being so far away from stuff, hey tell me about it. In my town we don't have any malls, cinemas, clothing stores or anything. I need to take the train to the next bigger city, every time I need a new shirt. Which takes about 45 minutes. So your mail box is really that far away? And I thought I had it bad.

Holy cow, that thing goes as fast as my bicycle-sized moped!

But… hitting a pothole on that little thing at 25 mph is a recipe for head and neck trauma

@dieAntagonista: What happened to walking? The US happened, that's what. Here in the US, everything is spread out to ridiculous extremes. It's not uncommon to be twenty or thirty miles from anything... well beyond walking distance. Where I live now (Southwestern US), it takes me almost five minutes IN A CAR to get to my mail box! Not post office box, the damn MAIL BOX. It's a ten mile round trip to the closest grocery store, and that's the closest I've EVER lived to a grocery store in my life.
