This was taken at a State Park on Lake Tawakoni in Northeast Texas.Samples contained 250 specimens in 12 families. The samples contained at least 16 identified genera.
The spiders sampled included 151 Tetragnathidae, 46 Salticidae, and 19 Araneidae. These three families represented 60.0 %, 18.4 %, and 7.6 % of the spiders in the samples respectively. These three spider families accounted for 86 % of the spiders collected.Samples contained 250 specimens in 12 families. Sheets of web have encased several mature oak trees and are thick enough in places to block out the sun along a nature trail at Lake Tawakoni State Park, near this town about 50 miles east of Dallas.
The gossamer strands, slowly overtaking a lakefront peninsula, emit a fetid odor, perhaps from the dead insects entwined in the silk. The web whines with the sound of countless mosquitoes and flies trapped in its folds.

Spiders and I have a shaky but enforceable truce. I leave them alone, they leave me alone, but I’m pretty sure if I was a fraction of their size and I wandered into a web they’d kill me – so when one crawls out of my bathroom light fixture or curtain…I return the gesture.

I hate spiders. If I’m outside and I see one, I’m more than likely going to just leave it. Its in it’s habitat, live and let live. But if one is in my house, hot damn, find me a flyswatter.
I like spiders, creepy as shit but they help against annoying bugs, so I loan them my room’s corners. Mother never liked my logic, but when it was HER way, my legs were always full of mosquito bites.

The pic reminds me of New England, circa 1981, when the whole region was in the midst of a Gypsy Moth caterpillar infestation. They grew in web-tents like this (not as large, but numerous.) I was in grade school then, and I’ll never forget it. They were EVERYWHERE. You could hear them defoliating the trees at night…it sounded like a light rain. People wrapped vaseline-coated tinfoil around the trunks to keep them from climbing up and destroying their shade trees. The tire-mashed carcasses slicked up local roads. They also hung from branches by long threads –one hit me in the mouth once as I was riding my bike down the street.
