He’s Sam the Koala.
He was caught up in the bushfires in Victoria and was brave enough to get a drink from one of the fire fighters.

A quick note.
Sam the Koala wasn’t caught in the big bushfire weekend (the one that killed everyone), but was actually injured by controlled backburning about 1 week prior to the major fires that was done to attempt to prevent massive fire damage.
Takes the shine off it, hey.

Helpful in that it kept her claw in a controlled position. Koala’s claws are for lopping off branches, pretty dangerous.

There is a video of this. Its nuts. Koala’s don’t usually drink water. They also don’t like people. So it was definately very desparate.
Oh and RSIxidor is right it put its burnt hand in his because it was cold from water dripping.

One of the guys from my brigade was there when that photo was taken. They stopped like that for all the animals they found that day
