“Like most Americans, and like Michael Phelps himself, we were disappointed in his behavior,” Subway said in a statement. “Also like most Americans, we accept his apology. Moving forward, he remains in our plans.”

I guess that helps me decide between a 5 dollar foot long and a bowl of Frosted Flakes tonight when I’m sitting on my couch in my underwear.

So he smoked.. Did he hurt you? Did he touch you in a naughty place? NO! If they take away his medals or his endorsements who cares? Phelps of course will but even he has to understand not everyone is okay with it.. That is the price you pay.

Why are people making such a damn big deal about this? So he smoked while in Europe. That doesn’t mean he is a bad role model.

If you want a bad role model, look at Lance Armstrong. That man infuriates me. His wife stood by his side while cancer ravaged his body. Then, he abandoned his wife and his kids as soon as he got rich and famous and slept around with various singers and athletic trainers. THAT is a good role model.

If I ever had kids, I would much rather have them putting up posters of Phelps hitting the bong than posters of the world’s biggest hypocrite, Lance Armstrong

Now I know how many retards actually visit this website! “WEED ROX” “LETS GET HIGH ITS COOL BECAUSE EVERYONE DOES IT YAHHHHH!” and then you grow old and instead of being one of those wise old men that knows everything about history, and tells good stories, with a loving family youre a washed up bag of garbage that cant take a dump without something mechanical helping you. Weed is dumb, you are all stupid. I also find it sad that the only way most people have fun in their lives is drinking alcohol and doing drugs with their friends. What kind of life is that? I actually enjoy the parts of my life that can be enjoyed not live in an addictive false reality. Kinda wierd that a 16 year old should have to tell people to grow up. Try having fun without smoking weed or drinking alcohol. You waste your money, waste your time, waste your life, waste your brain, lose your friends, lose your family, and so you smoke more weed and drink more beer. Modern society would be better off if every alcoholic and pot smoker had an addiction for shooting themself in the mouth. Retards.

2] Just think of how much better he and all other drug users could perform without the influence of those drugs – so crack down on drug use of all sorts and lets see how things improve

Who would laugh at (you?) or the states in general because of this? the only thing i can think of that would be cause for mockery is the war on drugs, since it tries to make pot out to be this soul killing thing when clearly great things can be accomplished by someone who partakes, albeit he clearly wasn’t on it during the events.

It’s always hard to pick out trolls in threads like this because there are too many people who actually have these woefully undereducated misconceptions about the topic.

And Blacks used to count as 2/3 a person? I guess we shouldn’t question authority guys. Because the majority of anti-marijuana ads aren’t paid for by big tobacco and alcohol companies, right? While we’re at it, let’s make it so only the whites can vote again?

Could I be any more blunt? Well, I guess I could call you a fucking idiot…

      Reply

    32. @Dungholder: I’m sorry, DH, but there are lots of laws that are wrong. You would be surprised the kinds of legal nonsense that is still on the books. The thing is, I know people who’s only alternative to eating a bullet is to smoke a little weed to help them unwind every now and then.

Yes, some people can go out running and achieve the same thing, but for people like Phelps, for whom the major source of stress is actually his physical ability, I think a little weed, used in moderation, is not necessarily a bad thing to help him get away from that for a while.

Note than I am not condoning being a pothead. Or developing a chronic addition like the majority of people that Tiki was talking about. I’ve just grown an intense distaste for the blatant lies that people spew just to bolster their position on something.

You seem smart enough to realize that drugs aren’t a good solution to every problem. I hope you are smart enough to realize that for some people, they are a better solution than others…

    33. Ok seriously this thing is put way too out of proportion, just like the airplane crash in the Hudson. Alright so who cares if he smokes weed? The only reason this is so widely spread in the media now is that people go crazy over the corruption of celebrities. The other reason is that this whole story includes a bait the piranha media crowd gobbles up: Marijuana. Look up the true reason weed is illegal. Back than only a small percentage of the population smoked and it was accepted without question or hesistation. Up until the Cold War is where it became a “problem” in our country. I don’t care if weed is legalized or not because its not like its truly enforced in the USA. I honestly just hope it is so the crowd of kids who got onto weed because it was illegal can shut up about it, seriously the only topic of discussion you can get into with a stoner kid is legalization. They don’t even know their basic facts of its history or origin. Most kids at my school know that weed is legal in places other than Amsterdam. So lets stop with the topic, lets educate people and hopefully everyone can shut up about stupid news topics.

Something a pothead wouldn’t realize… but once you start to sober up and come back to the real world all your problems are still there. If you wanted to make your life better you would fix your problems not be lazy and smoke weed. I’ve got a horrible problem in my life, my girlfriend lives 800 miles away. I was supposed to see her on valentines day but I couldn’t get my grades up enough and I ended up failing 2 out of my 7 classes. I cant see her for another 4 months… but you don’t see me smoking any weed or drinking any alcohol. I dont follow any trends and to me peer pressure is a myth. If you wanna try to be cool and try weed for the first time thats all cool with me, but when you start to go under its not gunna have an effect on my life.

Who said we use pot to solve anything. Not everyone smokes/drinks to escape from reality. I do it for fun, I smoke at least twice a week, and I don’t do it because I have any problems. I’m a college student who has a kickass life right now. The fact that you failed 2 out 7 classes in high school just makes me think you’re dumb. I never tried in high school, and I went to a demanding private school with snob ass kids for 4 years. Your level of intelligence makes me think that your opinion is no longer valid.

Quit stereotyping potheads as burnouts who have a shit load of problems, that just isn’t the case.

@ColombianMonkey: sorry, but if you can’t be bothered to monitor the troll population around here, we can’t be expected to call your mom and tell her to wake you up. I could, however, be persuaded to call your mom for OTHER reasons.
(a nice game of Risk, perhaps?)

Dung- can I call you Dung? Great- I want to tell you that I have smoked pot three times, to test out the three primary delivery systems. Not a big fan of the blunt, as smoking is generally not my bag. The bong was a bit awkward, due to my lack of experience, but was superior in experience to smoking. Cookies kicked ass. I love food, and the time i tried pot cookies, no one had even told me that they were of the special persuasion, so i’d eaten like 6 before someone noticed and stopped me. I got fucking bombed.

I have had a hard life at times, and a ridiculously easy life at others.
I smoked to see how it made me feel, and it made me feel goofy- like being drunk without the full stomach. It didn’t solve any problems and it wasn’t supposed to. The only negative side effect?
The ONLY one? dry mouth. When i came down, i had some nasty gross dry mouth, but i think that was more from eating six poorly made pot cookies and washing it down with improperly spiced mead. (Yes- mead. Done right- awesome. Done wrong? Tastes like Theraflu)

You can rant about potheads and escapism all you want, but those problems apply to anything people take to excess- booze, pot, video games, tv, comic books, or just plain overeating. Granted the consequences aren’t all the same for these habits, but they’re all symptoms of the same self control problem- whatever the cause of that is.
Pot itself isn’t bad. It’s good. The only reason it’s illegal is because a legal pot industry would be booming, and would seriously damage tobacco and booze profits, and so they lobby tirelessly to keep objective research discredited, and public opinion thinking of it as a “drug”
Drugs are controlled substances, Dung- pot is just an herb.

@elzarcothepale: The only difference between Weed and Booze is the fact that its less popular and last time they tried to outlaw alcohol people shot at each other, started little faggy gangs, and cops somehow became even more useless.
@Annarchy: My dad is not a pig (and you are not an anarchist). And how does pot help you relax when you have to go through all the stress of finding someone who will sell it to you, blowing half a paycheck for it, driving home with it in your car checking every corner for cops and making sure you dont do anything wrong to get pulled over, getting home and then finally light it up and when its all gone you repeat the same process. Seems to me like theres more downs than ups and I havent said a thing about what it does to your body so theres certainly more downs. Not that I care if anyone here smokes weed, its the fact that Phelps is representing our country when it comes to olympics. As if other countries didnt think we were already lazy stupid morons. And nobody here seems to realize that obviously nobody will give him a break. Just because you guys smoke weed means that its okay for him to smoke weed?

I’m what you’d call a genetic gold mine. Even if I wasn’t. . . well, lets just say that you don’t really have any means of insulting me, you simple little cockwobble.
I don’t have “promiscuous” sex either (though, to be perfectly honest, what the hell do you even mean by that? do you mean you don’t have sex at all? or you only do it once every 6 months? only with your wife?) but whatever ideals or principles i have, i don’t need a group or a club to belong to to back me up and make me feel accepted.
Your friend has a young body- an infinitely more adaptable tool than an adults.

    82. this would probably be an easier argument on the www.myconfinedspace.com/chat/ page. I much prefer making you look like an idiot in real time

    88. @Dungholder: I know you are young, and you don’t know what you don’t know, but you are going to find that the world isn’t half as simple as you seem to think it is.

If I were you, I’d be trying to figure out why there are so many contradictions in what I see around me, rather than blindly defending my position in the face of mountains of contradictory evidence.

Your father may have been a drunk, but that was your father’s doing. The alcohol was not what made him a drunkard. Many people have used alcohol without becoming drunkards. The moment you decide to shut down your brain, and refuse to logically think about something, even if it is because you experienced a traumatic experience related to it, you are dooming yourself to never actually learning anything from the experience.

Don’t let your fathers mistakes damage you any more than they have. Work through it, and actually think about why it what happened. Bravery does not exist in the absence of fear. Bravery is an act of courage in the face of fear. It is the same with anything else.

Avoiding alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, sex, etc. like the plague is not what what will prevent you from becoming an addict. Until you learn how to view them with neither fear, yearning nor loathing, they will control you. You will be no better off than your Dad…
