Hahaha… “Great Deals”? Wait until about three weeks from now when they actually give discounts. 10% of full retail or marked-up prices is not a deal. The liquidators are just trying to balance that fine line between getting inventory out the door and reducing losses, leaning heavily towards the latter.

tidewithbleach: as a former employee, yes.

    goatsgomoo

I can still find cheaper prices at newegg, even though they aren’t liquidating their inventory and they charge for shipping. I drove down to the local Circuit City (which just opened last summer) to try to find a good deal on something I wanted there. It was a waste of 45 minutes.

    righthand

ding dong the dick is gone, yes.
    thank you recession, thank you

    nyoki

tidewithbleach: goatsgomoo: Same here. I went looking for a bayyery and some memory for my camera and even w/ the 10% off it was still 5-15% more than regualr prices elsewhere. It’s why they’re failing to begin w/. They still don’t get it.

    err *battery*

To be fair, it’s no longer Circuit City.

It’s a liquidator wearing the skin of Circuit City. Accessories on video game stuff & the candy was a deal, the mark-up on games ($40 for the Orange Box vs $30 at Fred Meyer) and laptops were bad.

Still, by the time the real discounts hit the people who are falling for the “fire sale” will have already bought up all the good stuff.

    Puulaahi

    Sweet everything on SALE!

: Still sucks 34,000 people had to lose their jobs and you’re on the net cheering. I guess the recession hasn’t hit your mom’s basement yet huh? Circuit city is gone but you’ll always be an idiot.

@post: The liquidators jacked up prices at our store and then reduced from there. At my store this week most stuff moved up to 20% somethings are good deals.

    vutterfly

yeah, the same thing happened when CompUSA (I think it was) was closing around here… even in the last few days before they were done for, they still had horrible prices for a place that’s going out of business, and they had nothing but crap left anyway.
And btw since Circuit City’s closing does that mean Best Buy will have a monopoly now (since most people don’t know about newegg etc)?

    nyoki

I gotta admit that I almost went for the slushie maker for $80.

    Sticky

    nyokki:
And you didn’t get it? Oooh…you sad sad soul.

    nyoki

Sticky: I know. I really frikken love slushies. I was so pissed when 7-11 got rid of their diet coke slushies. I practically lived on them in a happier innocent time when the world made sense.

    righthand

I’m not cheering the recession moron. Just the death of a shit company with a shit business plan. Yes it sucks you and others lost your jobs. But if circuit city ran there stores to make money and NOT to give jack-holes like you a place to hang out, you would still have your shit job. dumb ass.

    justamedicine

: You have no idea how frustrating it is to watch the idiots that call themselves district managers and etc bring down a company that you worked hard for. You don’t know what I did there or how much effort I put in dude. I’m sorry they didn’t have your Wii and now your pissed and think it’s a piece of shit company cause they wouldn’t let you return a 2 year old camera. I never said you were cheering for the recession. Employees at the bottom don’t get to make too many decisions about running the company dude, they just do what they’re told in hopes of not getting fired. I know you’re cheering for the end of a company, I’m just trying to remind you that just because they didn’t follow the business plan you emailed them doesn’t mean they had bad people working in the stores.

    righthand

yes I do know how frustrating it is to work with malfunctionally retarded management. That’s why I got an education and got the hell out of retail. I would suggest you do the same.

But I’m just some asshole form the internet what the hell do I know.

Whatever, you win, just stop whining.

    Elepski

I checked it out.. it was lame… the marked down prices where still higher than other stores..It’s all about it’s all around fail as a store.

    frogurtx

They still won’t sell their fire extinguishers.

    Ghostman

I worked for them for almost 7 years and got hit by the 2007 first round of layoffs. I already had a better job lined up, though…I brought my 2-week notice to work with me that day and ended up getting a severance check instead. They brought it on themselves, and it sucks that a bunch of people I know are losing their jobs, but they’ll find something, probably something better.

    Annarchy

While I feel for the employees who have lost their jobs, this place was not ever worth me walking into. Fry’s Electronics is way better, has way more merchandise and charges way less. Also, the Fry’s building is shaped like a Mayan temple.

    storminator

fuck CC. their shit was ALWAYS overpriced. it’s no wonder they went under. i only shopped there if i HAD to.

and there will be no REAL discount until the last two days.

    FullofStars

    : agreed
    consumerist.com/5079502/no-deals-notorious-compusa-liquidator-to-run-circuit-city-closings

CC used to be kinda good like 15 years ago when they paid their employees spiffs (commission). I got the possibly the best customer service ever from a retail store. Store warranty was the best. Took a broken CD player in, walked out half an hour later with a new one (mostly from choosing a new one when they didn’t carry the same model). NEVER got that from the Blue box (three hours and a two week wait). I’d go to CC if I wanted to learn, or purchase something that wasn’t Walmar-Fallapart.

Then they copied Best Buy’s business model, like the way a five year old copies daddy in the shop. No commision, slightly above minimum wage, and treat employees interchangeable like lightbulbs. No incentive to do anyting but come in and collect a paycheck. And still higher prices than the Blue box. CC killed themselves
