Anyone whos ever driven around DC\’s beltway knows this Mormon temple that looms over it somewhere on the northeast loop. The title is what my brother, while we were driving down to Virginia, blurted out the first time he saw it.

I’ve driven through there many times since the temple was built. My memory may be faulty, but I believe that–at one time, at least–the phrase was “FREE DOROTHY”, which would make more sense. I don’t remember seeing “surrender dorothy” at any time.
But, I’m old.

Holy Shit! thats only minutes from my crib. Its massive structure – you can see it from miles and miles. Its been rumored that the angel blowing the trumpet (on the furthest tower on the left) is made totally of gold…

Last time I drove under that bridge, the graffiti had been removed. It made me kind of sad. Maybe someone braver than I will repaint it.
There’s no way that statue is solid gold.

The benefits of a tax free institution.
Churches should be taxed MORE than regular businesses.

When I was little, my family lived in Annapolis, and my Grandma lived (still does) in DC. On the Beltway on the way to Grandma’s house, there is an overpass–just a few miles before the Connecticut Ave exit–which used to have spray painted across:
“Dorothy GO Home”
Above the overpass, in the skyline is the Mormon Temple.
It has since been painted over, but my brother and I always used to look forward to seeing that graffiti and the emerald city — that meant we were almost to Grandma’s!

You gotta love that the first five letters of the six-letter name of the Mormon’s primary agent of God spell out “moron”
