@outofocus: That's basically what I was doing last night. I used a pic of my cat and just started playing around; seeing what did what. I'll prolly look for a starters/novice tutorial. Thanx for all the info. It is definitely helping.

@nyokki: Nope, it’s not for novices. I think that’s why they came out with the Elements program when the first CS was released.

The most basic things and most common tools you’d use in Photoshop would be the saturation tool, sharpening tool, noise reduction, brightness/contrast. With those four, you can do a lot. Just ignore everything else and focus on those. Try playing with them and see what they do.

I figured that stuff out on my own. I’m taking the Photoshop classes mostly because I want to be able to do more with my photos… I hit a wall where I can not afford better equipment and this is where Photoshop can be useful for me.

@outofocus: I wish I was able to appreciate what I have, but I have no clue where to even begin. I think I may look for Picassa as a starter. I was looking through CS4 and it's complicated and doesn't appear to be for novices.

@nyokki: Wow. You now have the most powerful photo editing software ever! There are some drool inducing tools in CS4. I have CS2. The class series I've been taking is for CS3 and I often run into having to do things manually that CS3 has tools for doing. heh.

@outofocus: #1 son gets all kinds of programs for free. Companies send him things to test and he gets to keep them. I asked him if he had any photoshop and he handed it to me 1/2 hour later (he's not the most organized person).

@nyokki: Lucky. That was just released a little while ago. How did you end up with that if you aren't a PS user? I forgot about the program Adobe Elements which I believe is free (they give it away free with cameras). It's a simpler version of Photoshop. My mom uses it because she can be bothered to learn the CS editions of Photoshop (we've both been using it since v3 and with CS it was like almost starting over).

@nyokki: Picasa is free thanks to Google. :] Photoshop is super expensive. I really want the latest version (CS4).
