Nah, I'm fairly certain that Fagot here refers to a bundle of wood. Yet another term which doesn't get much use as it's now rude.

@MarauderDeuce ,UN Forces, then NATO.Yea,they were a bit miffed when they ran across this thing in Korea. The USAF initially had nothing to counter it with but F-80`s and "Twin Mustang" F-82`s.Nowadays they`d probably call it a "Newfag".

And no one has thought to mention that it's NATO call sign is the Fagot. :)

I'm certain that the reference is to fire wood but it's interesting that the Mig-15 is the only one of these aircraft that you don't hear referred to by it's call sign.

F-88.I did`nt notice that. There was precursor to the F-101 Voodoo (prototypes only)called "F-88".MiG15 had two 23mm and one 37mm cannon.A lot of fire power compared with the F-86.It just had six 50 caliber machine guns. All later USAF aircraft had cannons. It also was smaller and lighter, thus had a higher climb rate and a marginally tighter turning radius.Speed was about the same. What made American pilots prevail in the Korean War was training.Which was far better than the Soviets,North Koreans or Chinese.
