I’m afraid to ask but: Who thought they were witches and why?

Looks like an african or carribean country given the Black People, the relatively crappy surroundings, and the european style van. ( not saying that all black people live in crappy areas, drive european mini vans and are impoverished. you racist bastards.) They are most likely practicioners of voodoo, voudou, or vodun. They generally do not like getting lumped in with witchcraft. they tend to come under critcism because of supposed “human sacrifices” or that some think they eat aborted babies. The reality is that in both religions it does occur but those acts are very rare and when they do occur they are nowhere near common. Typically acts like that occur in the most clandestine and “personalized” sects of the religion. If you could even classify it as a sect.

That was in India, but Africa has just as bad or worse a problem with this issue.

This is from Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria. Here are some excerpts for those of you not interested in reading the entire article:
“Belief in witchcraft is strong across the country but a fear of child witches has become widespread in Akwa Ibom State since 1990s. Now children are blamed for all kinds of misfortune that befalls their families. They are abandoned or sold to child traffickers who then indenture them as house-workers in other parts of Nigeria or into prostitution. Others are violently exorcised to rid the child of the “demons”.
“Exorcism victims seen by CRARN in the past include a child who had nails driven into her head.”
Makes you real proud to be a human being on planet Earth…
