everclear is just really, really high proof alcohol (i.e. a shot of everclear is like two shots of whiskey)–…that’s it. No special magic, it’s just almost pure alcohol.

Wood grain alcohol is methanol instead of ethanol. there is a substance in your blood called ADH (Alcohol De-Hydrogenase) that converts regular alcohol (ethanol) into harmless substances. That’s how you get sober after a bender. Unfortunately, ADH converts methanol into fermeldahyde (a crazy cancer-causing preservative that used to be used to preserve dissected animals for biology classes). THAT’s what will make you blind.
