Because of Facebook, I will never have to go to a high school reunion.
“What’s Bob up to? Okay, let’s see… huh. Fascinating. Ah, screw this. Let’s go download some more cool stuff.”

I had one, got bored, deleted the account. Everyone seems to be more interested in what others are doing than getting to KNOW others. Even if I added people I know because of someone else, they just added me without trying to get to know me better. I guess “networking” means “stalking others”, not “making friends”.

Facebook is slowly approaching the level of shittiness MySpace has been at for a while. Its the natural progression and evolution of all social networking sites as the developers attempt to cram more and more new features in to keep the users interested and from moving to another site.

I use Facebook for playing Scrabble with my friends who are far away.

facebook is scary because my family, friends, high school friends, college friends, work friends, students, and bosses all read the same thing.

I still like FB quite a bit, it helps me keep in touch with friends that I otherwise wouldn’t talk to as much. You just have to ignore 99.999% of the applications, because they are for the most part rubbish. Stupid bullshit like “So-and-so just sent you a piece of flair! Send a piece of flair to 15 of your friends to see what so-and-so sent you!” can really sour you on the whole experience (especially once your realize the only reason so-and-so ever sent you a fucking piece of flair was to see the piece of flair some other douchebag sent *them*). Just ignore / block all that shit and it can be pretty fun otherwise.
As far as privacy, I just have different friend groups, and don’t allow any of my “work friends” or anybody in my “restricted” group to see my status updates, posted items, wall posts, etc. They probably think I’m a pretty boring FB friend since they never see any activity on my account, but that’s what they get for working with me.
