Believe it or not, a tac light could actually prove to be somewhat useful. Keep in mind these aren’t like your normal flashlight, and the better ones can shine extremely brightly at good distances.

Another thing you may want to put on it is something like an AN/PEQ-2, which can put out an infrared laser and beam to illuminate areas through night vision optics.

@...sylvanish: Yes. Sometimes, you have to make certain of what you’re shooting at. Other times, it could be as simple as illuminating a suspicious object. You’re right, though. You’re not supposed to really use your tac light in an open environment unless it’s absolutely necessary, as how it’s pretty much broadcasting your position. Just a call you’ve got to make as to whether or not you should do it. One thing they come in quite handy for is stopping traffic at night.

The great thing about using them with room clearing is that if you do it right, shining one of those lights in somebody’s face in the middle of the night after they just woke up can be just as effective as a punch in the face. Wake up and the first thing you see if an excruciatingly blinding light pointed at your face? Pretty effective.
