@natedog: Notice how the huge fucking holes are white and yet, the water on the outside of the boat is not. Now let us take a jump in logic here, do not get lost along the way please. The boat, this is the jump, is made from more then just wicker weaving! DUN DUN DUUUUUN!

The holes are real, but since the reeds themselves are buoyant, it doesn’t need to be water-tight to float.

naa he’s just really tiny floating in a basket

Very much reminds me of a corracle, a traditional Irish skin-on-frame kind of boat. If I’m remembering right, they were historically covered with horse hide.

@mAgnUS BUTTfoorson: It’s a good thing then that there are no walls.

@nyokki: With my mind.

would it be out of line for me to point out, at this juncture, that there is in fact a water proof outer layer over the wicker frame, much like a tarp boat design, and that a woven reed soup bowl is not inherently buoyant enough to support the weight of a large cat, let alone a full grown man…?

Yes… this is in India.
No those arent holes. Think of them as two collanders with a layer of plastic in between.
Those interested in fishing should check out mahseer fishing in these things…….
