    the engine is a 12.7l straight 8.

    Only 6 were produced and they still exist.

    One of those sold in 1991 for US$ 8,000,000.

    Engine technology in 1931 was not what it is now.

    But I think this had more to do with “Mine is bigger than yours” attitude.

    In line 8’s were really common and they figured the larger the engine/pistons the more horsepower. The only problem is that the horsepower not only have to fight the weight of the chassis but also the engine block itself.
