The upsidedown Harley patch came from Willy G Davidson regaining control of HD from AMF. (Yes, the bowling company)

When he did it, he decided to try and sell the biker mystique to the world. He started by demanding that shops that sold Harley Davidsons, ONLY sold Harley Davidsons and shut down the Harley side of a lot of mom and pop shops that made their livings by stapling with Yamaha and Suzuki sales during the "Bowler bike" years. He's a cunt.

Outoffocus - Motorcycling is mainstream now, accept it. It's just another case of having to deal with a bunch of idiots invading what you love. Christ, I wish it wasn't, my insurance rates basically tripled in the last 10 years on my bikes.

@dekay46: If you think that front tire is full - you need your eyes checked. and should probably go check your CAR tires as well.

@dekay46: Yes, but it used to mean something. Wearing bike apparel w/out being a rider could have been dangerous, at least in NYC in the 70s (especially Brooklyn and Manhattan). Assumptions were made about you and it got you "in" in some places and kept you "out" in others.

@Flappycunt: that tire looks pretty well-inflated to me.

@thelotuseater725: "people buy Harley Davidson apparel without ever having even ridden on ANY motorcycle" that's always been true, though.

Also, for the record, harley makes lawnmowers, not motorcycles.

@ outofocus:

I sense that your feelers got a little bit hurt.
The d-bags that do the stupid shit may (possibly) be the "small" percentage of all bike riders in your opinion. In MY opinion, all of the crotch-rocket riders I see, are doing this kind of shit and are completely full of themselves. The ones that just ride for the love to ride, and don't do obnoxious shit, in a vye for attention are fewer and far between.

@outofocus: Trendy clothing brands, contests everywhere, big name sponsors and large sums of money in contests. Not to mention the horrible mainstream movies showing professional motocross and so called street biker culture.. Every class of people own motorcycles too. Fox Clothing is trendy too. Motorcycles have been mainstream for sometime. Remember when Harley riders were society outsiders? Now every class of society goes on Harley rides.

When I was a youngster, off road motocross/supercross was completely off the radar. Now everyone knows who Travis Pastrana is and certainly Brian Deegan is. I love the smell of 2 stroke exhaust in the morning. Yummy!

Sure, off road and on road motorcycling are very different. But the freestyle cultures are very similar. Both taking away from real riding: racing.

OMG calm down!

@Outofocus

The refusal to accept that ones subculture is now mainstream and Fashionable/cool. Motorcycle lifestyle is as mainstream as abercrombie and fitch honey. When you can go to your local wal-mart and buy clothing that is associated with that culture that was only previously available in specialty shops it is safe to say it is mainstream. Sturgis is as well known as the bush administration and practically everyone can name at least one high end motorcycle company. When douchebag college kids begin wearing triumph, norton and indian shirts en masse without having any knowledge of their significance it is mainstream. When people buy Harley Davidson apparel without ever having even ridden on ANY motorcycle it is mainstream. When you see college kids riding their rice burner cock rockets in flip flops, shorts and wife beaters, it has gotten mainstream. And the fact that said college douchebags generally buy them for the sole purpose of getting laid and "looking tough" makes it mainstream. The only part of biker culture that is somewhat underground in America is Moto GP and even then it is huge in Europe. So i am sorry but your culture is mainstream now. I know it sucks since mine went mainstream in the 80's but oh well, just be glad that you are one of the few people in it for the sole purpose that they appreciate it and not because it is "cool".

@outofocus:
a: you should have considered lumping all of those into one comment- the reply linker can be used as many times as you need.
b: a cycle hitting a car door doesn't follow the crisp physics of a billards game- the angle of the car door won't "bank" the bike into the car.
If you assume the car is stopped, and the bike is moving at a decent clip, the door will be destroyed with the bike, and both will still be moving forward, albeit at an altered trajectory. if you assume the car is moving at half the speed (or something like that) of the bike, then the impact will damage the door,and then the wreckage will rapidly decrease in speed, especially compared to the still moving car. The wreck may damage the car as it passes by or over it, but that's about it. Only thing I can think of is that maybe if the bike somehow exploded on impact with the door, and the explosion killed the driver.

3: all of these are unimportant, seeing as how you made it sound like the bike was a vengeful Transformer, ready to choke a bitch for the affront.

@mintymadness: If you opened your door on a motorcycle, it's very likely the motorcycle would come into the car and kill you. Think about it for a second.

Not that you'd deserve any less if you actually did something like that.

@Flappycunt: Lower tire pressure does make doing low speed stunting easier to control but that doesn't mean it doesn't take skill (and lots of practice) to do the stuff the pros do.

Wheelies are pretty easy to do on just about any bike. Small engine or big. Small engines are just require more finesse.

@Puulaahi: OMG! There you go again.

Motorcycling is NOT mainstream. Just because there are sports that bring it to the attention of the mainstream does not make it mainstream.

As with all things, there are the good riders and the bad riders. The bad riders are a small percentage but they make a bigger impression than the good riders. That does not make the activity or lifestyle less respectable.

Don't clump dirt riding in with street riding either. It's not the same and the environments have not evolved the same over the years.

More like a sloppy kiss.

Motorcycling was so much more respectable back when it wasn't mainstream. Now it's all glitter and gloss with no soul. Although a double back flip is pretty F'n cool and James Stewart and Chad Reed kick uber ass. I still miss the good ol days of Supercross and Motocross.

My + 2 cents: i have to say, letting almost all the air out of your tires- makes doing wheelies and stoppies a HELL of a lot easier. No win for you.
with full air and doing 95mph to stoppie might get a point or two. Also, wheelies are easy- its called a turn of the throttle in second with a 900.
