It’s a quarry in AZ, I flew over it today on my way into Tucson…if I had to guess, it’s granite.

No, it’s a copper mine. The Casa Grande Copper Mine to be exact. Most copper mines in Arizona look just like that. It’s a common way of mining the ore that’s then refined to copper (and a few other metals).

I had said diamonds before because they mine it that way too.. they follow the kimberlite pipes straight down.
