The story was called “Harrison Bergeron”? I think I’m going to have to read that… Interesting concept, if entirely unrealistic… I seriously doubt you could call this a itopian society, all this would have done is reward mediocrity…
Elevate the average to aristocratic status, as they would be the only ones not artificially restrained in some way…

You’re missing the point: Objectivism is about living off the sweat of your own brow. In theory Angelina should be more of an Objectivist Satan than Kant: She never had a job, never been poor, got her first movie roles because her dad had connections, and has cruised off of letting people film her digitally altered titties and asscrack.

A script doesn’t have to be particularly long. Consider the original script for the movie Army Of Darkness. It was only 43 pages long. For the TV mini-series The Stand, the book was over 1100 pages long, the script was only 460 pages. For Once Upon A Time In Mexico, the script was a whopping 45 pages long. The average motion picture script is 100 to 150 pages long. It’s actually fairly easy (technically) to make a short story into a movie.

This was actually a fantastic short story, not so much for the quality of the story, but for the message that Vonnegut was trying to get across. Basically, he’s arguing that we can’t ever make everyone equal in every way, and that everyone should thrive on their personal talents and abilities.

That being said, the ending does seem like he never quite expected to have to end the story, the entirety of the message comes across in the description of the setting.

I was always told that Vonnegut, Melville, and Hawthorne were “classic” American authors and deserving of some respect, yet I found that their work was painful to read and thoroughly impossible to enjoy.

Seriously, Hollywood is about as preachy as a SouthPark episode. It’s only their to appease the *gasp* religious people who object to movies that don’t contain some sense or morality.

That’s a ok story, not one of his best. There’s no way they can squeeze a whole movie out of it so they are probably going to fill it out with some Ayn Rand bullshit.
