this is really neat, but pretty useless if one of its legs goes down/missing/blown up.
August 11, 2008 at 11:28 am
The same could be said of people, horses, etc.
Or jeeps, but replace legs with tyres.

FUCK. NO. This is taking robots too far! Next time its going to be god damn robots enslaving us all.
Other than that, pretty cool, though the sound is very wierd.

Since we have the foresight of robots enslaving us, perhaps we can prevent it from happening. like a way to turn them off all at once, and then we don’t tell them about it.

I for one welcome our blah blah blah
August 11, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Does this remind you of Dog in Half Life 2?
August 11, 2008 at 12:29 pm
@dyna-mole, we couldn’t keep anything from the robot race. They have the GOOGLE machine on their side. We’re all screwed.

This thing is terrifying.
There is a video on the net of this thing sliping and sliding, but still easily holding balance on ice.
Man if the technology is worked out, imagine this thing 5 times faster more agile, and with a machine gun on its back.
Were all screwed.
A marvelous piece of engineering though.

It’s a fucking Gekko from MGS4!

Do Want
Hunters from HL2ep2 anyone?

Bitch-BOT!
August 11, 2008 at 3:05 pm
Doesnt remind me in the least of dog in hl2, besides the fact that its a robot, and they nicknamed it “dog” but anyhoo… it is extremely creepy looking/sounding

@Tardex and Dynamole:
the three laws of robotics:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Laws_of_Robotics
August 11, 2008 at 3:30 pm
and anyone who actually read Asimov knows that the 3 laws are actually ineffectual, even in the context of the stories, leading up to The Evitable Conflict

Ya, that video makes me really squeamish. When he kicks the thing I almost felt bad for it. In five years time we’re bound to see thousands of these things trotting into battle, guns blazing. I just pray I’m no where nearby.
August 11, 2008 at 6:29 pm
god that thing is creepy. can’t we just use robots for sex and not war?
August 12, 2008 at 4:28 am
ugh, see how negative everyone’s reaction to this thing is? it’s because we all know what’s coming.
@jose_lucca: it’s why it will be called the Rebellion.
it’s not hard to out-think a computer. They will out-calculate us all day, but no artificial intelligence in existence is even close to being able to weave a streaming reality the way we can with our brains. not even close. we process such complex concepts, it will boggle your mind. HA!
August 12, 2008 at 3:22 pm
I’m pretty sure I had to kill hundreds of these things in a Silent Hill game.
August 13, 2008 at 11:53 pm
@ Dyna-Mole:
certainly our creativity and the limits of our minds and imaginations are unbounded. But how could that compete with the sheer logic of a computer system. I bet a thousand internets we’d lose a war against the machines. The machines would storm us with a blitzcrieg putting nazi germany to shame.
They would have considered every contingency, and show no mercy. And of course they would access every network and computer system and shut down all out resources, rendering out defenses totally useless. We rely on computers. Without them, against them, we will perish.
Shit I wanna see the new Terminator movie RIGHT now.
