The inside of the old cars that ran from Tottenville to St. George on Staten Island circa 1970s. This line got you to The Staten Island Ferry terminal which took took you to Manhattan. It took ~45 minutes on train then another 1/2 hr on the ferry. These seats were much more comfortable than the plastic ones that were in the newer cars. The back of some of these seats could be lowered to make for a comfy nap.

  1. I always do that. I guess it’s because when you say it as an acronym (which it obviously is)it starts a vowel sound.

I got the pic from The Staten Island Advance‘s website; actually hubby found it. I don’t know where it was taken. What part of the Island are you from? I lived mostly on the South Shore, but our last house was in Westerleigh. Growing up in Annadale and Pleasant Plains, I took these older cars to the Ferry everyday to get to school (Stuyvesant and Fordham University) in the city. I could prolly round up some more train pics if you’re interested.

If you search this site, you’ll find an old pic of Al Deppe’s.
