My guess is you’re right, Betsy. Oh, and Tiki: “Man Hole” and “Manhole” are rather different things. This is a manhole.
None of -my- holes are obsolete, thankyouverymuch.
In any case, interesting how they seemed so very determined to just ignore that it was there.

It is weird.
Why would they do that? It’s definitely a bizarre way of dealing w/ an errant manhole. I wonder if there is an actual manhole beneath the manhole cover?
