      the best kind are the charcoal ones, or the drum ones. tube filter are a no no apparantly, but im no expert.

      tikigod, if you’re planning Operation Mayhem 2, I’d like to be the first to join your ranks. SIR!

      It entirely depends upon your purpose.

      Are you filtering fart gas, particulate, or NBC?

      Do you need a hood?

      The products from MSA are good, but the US military mark 5 is the best deal for the money (you can get them for nearly nothing 2nd hand).

      actually thats presents a question. is the safety of a second-hand gas mask from a military supply store always guaranteed? anyone know the deal on that in canada and US, i.e: regulations?

      Barring some sort of Michael Crichton-inspired disaster, why the hell would a private citizen ever need to buy a gas mask?

      to shmoke. that’s why. n.n

      The currently military surplus gas mas is good, but make sure that you get a new, current replacement filter with it.. All common filters are now NATO threaded and fit most masks. You should probably get an NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) filter. Masks also come with and without hoods. If you get one without a hood, it’s a lot easier to put on, but doesn’t cover the skin on the back of your neck, or all of the skin under your hair.

      @MikeBabaguh

      to look awesome for halloween! this, combined with a big hood, and maybe a stray dog to wander the streets with me….

      I was gonna do that this year too Tiki. I had a big trench coat and everything. The only problem was the same as yours though, getting the mask, so I went as a British Lord instead!

      Halloween, eh?

      Then you will want to go for an old European gas mask.

      The European armies had gas masks that were freakish and scary.

      Check eBay.

      If you’re asking about Operation Mayhem 2… What was Operation Mayhem 1?
