Why stop at the language? Lets just make America British again, the government’s obviously incapable of playing nicely with others or looking after themselves.

First, English is the official language.

Second, you’ve completely missed out on the humor in that the angry woman’s sign is not spelled correctly.

I saw the mispelling, but English is not the official language, there is no official language.

My apologies, you are correct there is no official language at the federal level, just some of the states. I blame Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego…

I’ll be honest, I’ve seen this picture around, and wondered why it was so lulz worthy. And then someone told me

It’s lulz worthy because anti-immigration racists are stupid.

    “I saw the mispelling”

Yes, but did you see the misspelling?

And then there’s the poster in the background that says “Texas is not a Mexican colony”. Of course not! That would imply that it is still owned by Mexico, and we stole it fair and square!

We have two official languages up here: French and English.
Most people in my city speak Chinese.

I think we should all speak French. It’s a much nicer sounding language. Chinese is horrid. Indian sounds like you’ve got a disease. Russian and German are too angro. English has been bastardized by ebonics and the like.

    So salut, mon petite cons.

That’s probably wrong. Forgive me I only took the language ni school for 7 years. :|

it’s kinda bullshit that the country should become bi-lingual. I say that because in a way it opresses the immigrants because it not only alienates them from the rest of the nation but it prevents them from getting higher up jobs i mean when was the last time microsoft or any other multi-billion dollar US corporation spoke 100% spanish.

And yet when Americans go to other countries, they seem to expect people there to speak English too…

People just need to speak “common”. Or maybe have more language filters in place on their GUI.

Actually when i am in a different country i tend to not speak at all for fear of looking like some asshole tourist. Of course i learn a few phrases of common courtesy and try to observe local customs. To be fair a lot of countries have signs in english and whatever the native tounge is, so i could see why some americans expect the natives to know english.

Nobody remembers that all of this has happened before: immigration in the early 19th century happened in a proportion to the non-immigrant population of the U.S. that resembles immigration now. In the 19th century, immigrants clustered in communities where they kept speaking German or Gaelic, and often the first generation to come to this country at that time never learned English, either.

Ignorant white people made a big fuss about immigration back then, too, but I don’t see anybody complaining about the Irish or the Germans anymore…

Well that is a good point Jade but the mexicans have been immigrating here for well over a hundred years

One might even argue that they were already here before we cleverly crafted that line across the map.

    I agree with Magnus.
Nothing hotter than a chick speaking French. I heard a French chick talking yesterday and without even gawping at her rack I got a semi.
