Thanks Trent! He cancelled his Ottawa show last tour and this year he’s not coming to Ottawa. Now I can’t even steal his music to get back at him.

Wat? There’s a new album this soon after year zero?

Don’t forget that ghosts I-IV was between year zero and this.

that’s because all he’s doing is jerking off on his keyboard and releasing it as an album. Seriously, this shit sucks. Compared to NIN’s previous albums, ugh

He’s been on a downward spiral ever since… uh… the Downward Spiral. Funny how that works.

the new single was pretty bad. i listened to some of the other tracks and they weren’t that bad. they’ve been my favorite been band probably since pretty hate machine. the new stuff since with teeth hasn’t been THAT good, but it wasn’t all that bad, but meh whatever. they’re coming here to new orleans for voodoo music fest and i’m going in hopes they don’t spend all their stage time playing a bunch of stuff im not interested in

I like ambient stuff, so Ghosts I-IV wasn’t too bad for me. I can listen to it. But it’s not as good as Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works, not by a long shot.

I liked The Fragile too. He’s been experimenting with music and putting it out since the beginning. Some people only like his earlier, harder stuff. I haven’t listened to this but if it’s unanimous, it’s probably true. This is poop.

I thought the new Tool album (10000 Days) sounded repetitive and dated. But after a few more listens, I picked up the emotion that was a little more subtle (for Tool) and realized that it was pretty awesome.

But goddamn, at least this isn’t some terrible crap like Arcade Fire or Decemberists. That music (and other pretentious indy rock) got lauded by shitty critics all over the place. But it blows goats.

I used to get stoned to Tool all the time. Crazy crazy shit going on there

Ghosts was fail, With Teeth was Not sure if want, this is fail

Once he did the Downward Spiral he kinda ran out of ideas. Year Zero was batshit crazy awesome, and the Reznorator found a new motive in something other than being a whiny emo kid. The sound textures were polished to headpounding perfection, even if the songs were a bit samey.

But this is just him dicking around on a keyboard. In all fairness he’s giving it away free, but I ain’t gonna buy this shit because it’s rubbish compared to the disco and loneliness of With Teeth or the apocalyptic headfuck noise /anthems of YZ. Which annoys me, because I’m the kinda guy who believes that nothing should exist apart from the final perfect product, instead of some halfassed half baked ideas turded out as an online album.
