Most likely, I’m on your side. I’m pretty liberal, but seasoned with a little conservatism I picked up in the military. Card-carrying member of the ACLU & EFF, and pay dues to NPR. Not a fan of the NRA, but I do want to own and carry a gun when I get home.
But, I like to keep my politics to myself when I’m downrange. Don’t want to be ostracized out here, it would suck even more.

I’ve been reading a lot of Heinlein lately (on “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress” now), so I guess the personal/social responsibility stuff. It seems like a lot of bullhorn liberals are all about “what about me or these poor people over there?”, instead of “what can I do for my country/state/neighborhood to make it suck less?”. I think doing little stuff like quitting smoking or losing weight so the rest of us don’t have to pay more for medical bills is a big step in building this nation. This nation starts with the person in the mirror.
Yeah, I love guns too. I just don’t want insane people to own them (sorry NRA).
And I know we can’t pull out of Iraq safely without having some asshole dictator as bad (or worse) than Hussein to stabilize that region. I was completely against the Iraq war when it kicked off (I was stationed in Korea at the time), but I know we can’t just pull out everything now.
And even though I support Obama, I am very wary of his ‘Campaign of Hope’. I hope to get more substance from him soon; as soon as Hillary drops out. I’ve even agreed with some (not all!) things that McCain has said about the housing crisis and economy.

Obama’s Philly speech on race, good. Obama pandering to people on Hope™, bad. I don’t know why people call him an elitist without bringing up the Bush and Clinton dyntasties. And I wish his former preacher would get eaten by a mountain lion so we can get past this shit already.
It’s frustrating to watch to the news, so I don’t. I watch Colbert/Daily Show for my daily news, and that’s probably a little sad.

Far be it from me to say you don’t look like the usual comm guy…so long as comms are up, you could look like Jabba for all I care. Even then, I guess I could always use a cup and some string for a 9 Line, right?
I know what you mean about the whole news thing. I like those two shows because they at least provide some real, comic relief amidst all the stupidity of news.
