War is a terrible thing. Being under attack, fending off assaults, knowing you are the person who just literally made another person stop living…
It takes a huge toll on those who do it. Most become desenstized to the violence, as it becomes second nature. Some break down into violent sobs on the field and cannot continue to defend themselves.
What is better? Kill to win, knowing it’s bad, until it gets to the point where killing is no longer bad? Infact, it may even feel fun? Or kill to win, knowing it’s bad, until it gets to the point where killing..kills you?
Some people go to war and come home fine, and others go to war and come home still at war.

They don’t look like nazis. They don’t where SS-uniforms but plain Wehrmacht uniforms. Just German soldiers.
I learned in psychology that it’s actually a ‘fight or flight’ feature to piss and shit yourself in traumatic events. Gets rid of excess weight. It happens to new soldiers more commonly than you’d think.

Well first of all this (semi-authobiographical) movie is one of the ways to handle the trauma (or one of the many traumas) of WWII. There’s a difference between that and cheap sentiment. Saving Private Ryan for example is cheap sentiment (Perhaps the cheapest sentiment I’ve ever seen btw).

Well they’re not exactly Nazis. They’re seven kids who’ve been drafted, got a few hours of training and then were told to guard that bridge against the Americans. Thanks to propaganda war was just a big adventure for them and those people who wanted to get them out of the army (like parents, teachers, veterans, other soldiers) were cowards for them. So they fought the oncoming american tanks instead of doing the smart thing and surrender (the americans actually wanted to send them home). That’s sad because it happened all over Germany in the last weeks of the war.
