      Great movie. I was impressed.

same here, after seeing the piece of shit that Superman – Doomsday turned out to be, I wasn’t expecting much, but I was really blown away by it.

Think I might get the HD version…

    3. Vote -1 Vote +1reboot (UID#436)

agreed about New Frontiers, but Superman-Doomsday >> Superman Returns.

I think all of the DC/WB animation, starting with Batman:TAS, has been much higher quality that the typical comic to movie adaptation. They’re the only DVDs that I’ll buy before downloading.

what the hell are you smoking? You’re saying that Doomsday was better then Returns?

      Are you kidding me?

what the fuck? How? The liveaction Returns was lightyears better then the animated Doomsday. The voice acting and animation in doomsday alone earned it a spot on my “shitty comic movie” list. Returns on the other hand was one of the best comic book movies ever.

    5. Vote -1 Vote +1reboot (UID#436)

      Point by point basis.
      Plot:
Both movies have about 90 minutes of actual story. Doomsday is a quick intro + 20 fight between Superman and Doomsday + plot development in the middle + 30 minute fight between Superman and Superman clone. It was a brisk, simple story with a moral twist and a lot of action.
Returns is 154 minutes long with a lot of rambling and seriously NO action. There is no real conflict, Superman never has any serious challenge. And plot holes that you could throw a bus through, e.g. if he can even stand up on the kryptonite island one minute, how is he supposed to lift it into space the next minute? I get the allusion to solar radiation, but still, that’s a continent made of kryptonite.

      Characters
Doomsday: Lex Luther is a sadistic villain who stone cold shoots his own assistant and beats the fuck out of the Superman clone just for kicks. Toyman and Doomsday are interesting interpretations of the characters. The Clone Superman has realistic moral conflicts.
Returns: Lex is a gold-digging conman, not even intimidating to a regular person, let along a threat to the Man of Steel. His plan is just Superman:the Movie redux (real estate plan that kills people). His own subordinates don’t even respect him.
Then you have all the other useless characters: faggy Jimmy Olsen, Lois Lane’s husband and the walking plothole, Superbaby. Superbaby alone would ruin any movie.

Voice acting was little weak, I would have preferred the voices from the Justice League series. But Brandon Routh? Keanu Reeves has more acting skill. Some of the other actors were decent, but they were just stunt casting.

The reason Returns is one of the best comic movies is because most comic movies suck.
BTW, not that it proves anything, but imdb agrees with me.

      A little weak?

dude it was voiced by 4 year olds and drawn by their mothers.

    7. Vote -1 Vote +1reboot (UID#436)

That’s all you got? I completely deconstruct the plot and characterization of both movies plus demonstrated that consensus is on my side and all you come back with is a trivial point that I already somewhat conceded?
Adam Baldwin is no Mel Blanc, but he does decent voice work. And Toyman was none other the John Di Maggio AKA Bender.

    8. Vote -1 Vote +1Mayy (UID#869)

I say they both sucked. New Frontier, however, was awesome.

    9. Vote -1 Vote +1tiki god (UID#1)

you deconstructed shit, you just threw down some bullshit that shows you didn’t even watch either of the movies, or at the very least didn’t understand why Returns was the sentimental flick it ended up being. It was an epic gay love note from Bryan Singer to Superman. Did you seriously not know this?

Also, consensus from what I can tell is that Doomsday was a POS. Compared it to JLU it was just pure crap.

Anyways, the point of this is that JL:NF was full of win, unlike Doomsday.

      I’m gonna go with reboot.

Doomsday was very good. Returns put me to sleep.

I like that Doomsday embellished on Luthor’s dependence on Superman to counter his position as the other unstoppable force.

New Frontier was cool too. Batman had that “Wayne…Bruth Wayne” thing going where they give him weird eye brows like he’s always confused or something. Confused and horny.

btw: Returns was not driven by any secret sexuality by Singer. Not everything is going to have that in it and I think most people just make bold assumptions because the man is openly homo (and a hell of a nice guy btw though it could just be because I’m so fucking man-pretty). It was much more pure to the previous cinematic property to be respectful of the established universe while bringing new blood to it. I think it failed. No gay shit in there though. Just boredom and special effects. Point to something you think was gayness and I’ll address it.

If anything Doomsday is the gayest. Luthor screaming at Superman “why did you leave me!?!”. I mean it wasn’t really Superman but that was still super duper balls to butt gay.

Tiki is livid over this. Put down the Rye you pile.

    11. Vote -1 Vote +1Camiam321 (UID#1511)

I’m inclined to agree with tiki god. There are a lot of things about Returns that could have been better, but it succeeded in many areas as well.

Doomsday had not a whole lot going for it. The story was too big to tell, but they tried–and it ended up feeling flat. Way to kill Superman, and then immediately reassure the audience that he’s still alive, rather than actually risk a little suspense in the damn movie.
