I'm currently in the navy and I am here to tell you go for it Demo, although you do get ordered around now and then more so in the form of you're told to do something and its expected to get done. Its not a bad gig though, I work on F/A-18's and I got a backseat ride in one, pretty fricken sweet. One inaccuracy though, an aircraft carrier can hold 4000 ships company plus 1500 air wing for a total of over 5500 sailors, a lil more than your 3000 estimate. Bullshit around til brass comes and tells you to do something. Waste no time doing said activity til it's done perfect. Bullshit around more. My brother's Army, and he gets ordered around nonstop. Navy is much more laid back, but still extremely professional. Airforce is just lazy. Coast Guard is just beer and chips, with unrealistic expectations for joining. Being "ordered around" is not what it seems like in the movies or tv, I rarely got ordered and when I became a supervisor I rarely had to order people around, because everyone knew what job had to get done and they got it done, I think it has to do with higher motivation and intelligence found in the civilian world and being in an all volunteer force. In fact, now that I work in the private sector I see people getting much more ordered around they I ever did in the military, I guess because in the civilian world they can fire you almost at will, in the military too much training and money has gone into the service members to treat them like crap. Of course you can always find some service member is not happy, but you find people like that everywhere.
