I can’t believe someone else knew this fact AND learned it from the most obscure episode of GI JOE ever. I truly thought I was alone with that nugget. I remember ‘shipwreck’ throwing apples at a giant worm or something.

@ bajizzle – yes, apple seeds do contain a cyanide compound. (I learned this initially from a G.I. Joe cartoon…now you know, and knowing is half the battle!)

But the amount is so minute that you would have to eat a TON of apples to have it affect you. That, and your body can process small amounts of cyanide, so it won’t build up in your body either.

@ Tony – eating the core is not healthy I heard because the pestides and chemicals they use when the apples are grown go down the stem and into the core. Maybe it’s just a rumor but why risk it?

I recently started eating the whole apple, core included (out of pure laziness, really; I didn’t feel like finding a trashcan once). I also eat the skin of the kiwi.
