I fucked up my knee pretty bad: I couldn't walk for a couple weeks, and it displaced something or other so it will occasionally sting like hell, probably for the rest of my life my doc says. Now, as long as I quit smoking withing the next 20-30 years, I'm probably pretty safe. If not, I'll probably lose a few years as a cripple with declining health anyway. That traffic-blocking thing will effect me forever no matter what. My conclusion: Ban blocking traffic.
