The problem with the internet and movies is people don't understand that it takes a miracle for anything to actually get made. The second problem in this scenario is people in movies serially forget that it takes a miracle. So dumbasses who's "production company" (see: friends sitting around playing PS3 and getting high) are slated to make a remake of something that would cost 300+mill and take 10 years are really just wasting everyone's time. Part of why it takes a miracle.

That's gonna suck man. The graphic novel was good - better than most - but it was sprawling and half-improvised, not originally being a novel but thousands of instalments in some magazine. The movie, even though it was dense, was way more consistent and was anchored in some of the strongest characters in anime history, not to mention the constant tension and good pacing - the manga meandered like crazy. Ootomo or whatever his name is admitted that himself.

I think the best director in the world could pull it off, but it's probably gonna end up being lots of effects, no pacing, no character development. Just some pretty pictures.

On the other hand, I'm still pretty hyped for the James Cameron version of Battle Angel, whatever year that comes out.

Both of the articles that Paul linked say that Leo's company is going to produce the Akira movie. Says nothing about him staring in it.

Oh, and it's going to be a two parter based on the original graphic novels, with each comprising 3 of the original 6.

@mAgnUS

Who says the budget has to be that high? They'll just do what they do with any movie that has too high a budget, scrap all the important effect-heavy scenes in favor of really crappy ones. Joy!

To put it in perspective: He's no longer a box office guarantee. The budget would top 300 mill. It would be R rated. It would be inaccessible to 90% of it's potential audience (those people who needed cheat sheets to follow The Matrix). He's slapped on a first time director right now who makes stupid trendy wanna be Spike Jonze videos.

Never going to happen.
