Scientology Protest Mask - February 6, 2008 by Professor Cramulus | Images

Tom-cruise_is_V.jpg (41 KB)

I’m bringing a sizable posse of Discordians and other ne’er-do-wells to the Anonymous NYC Scientology protest on 2/10/08. I’ll be bringing a few hundred of these, too.

Are any of you going?

Know what’s scarier than scientology? Recognized religions like Christianity. Get your f&@king priorities straight, people. Real threats to your liberty are coming from theocratic nutballs like George W. Bush, not fringe philosophical movements like Scientology.

    2. Vote -1 Vote +1schulzbrianr (UID#1277)

No, I don’t think so. I know the religion debate is just about as awesome as the politics debate, but, you really can’t call Scientology a religion, more of some nutballs sci-fi novel taken about 18 steps too far.

    3. Vote -1 Vote +1gpat (UID#2189)

      Who called Scientology a religion?

    4. Vote -1 Vote +1schulzbrianr (UID#1277)

“Know what’s scarier than scientology? Recognized religions”
Meaning that Scientology is an UNrecognized religion?

    5. Vote -1 Vote +1gpat (UID#2189)

Ah. Sorry that was confusing. I didn’t intend the reader to make that logical leap. Read the last sentence where I refer to Scientology as a “fringe philosophical movement”, rather than a religion.
The Anonymous NYC protest is about Scientology suppressing our Freedom of Speech on the Internet. My point was that if you really care about your liberties and freedoms, you should be paying attention to what recognized religions are trying to do, rather than wasting time on Scientology.

@gpat – Here’s the thing, gpat. I can criticize George Bush all day. I can’t look at the enternet without some 14 year old trying to stick it to the man. And when some guy on TV makes a documentary about Pope Joan, the Vatican does nothing to try and stop it.
      .
On the other hand, scientology has been conducting lawsuits in order not to win, but to quote L. Ron Hubbard: “The purpose of the suit is to harass and discourage rather than to win.” They’ve been driving all their critics to bankruptcy in lawsuits they, most of the time, don’t actually win. They censor more than the fucking government. And let’s not forget Lisa McPherson, when they clearly murdered a woman, slowly and painfully, and then threw enough money at the court system to get away with it.
      .
Fuck scientology. Scientology is what the mainstream churches were a few hundred years ago. As far as I’m concerned, this Anonymous vs. Scientology thing could be fucking history.

Bringing Discordians? Brilliant! I hope the raid is awesome!

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
Read the whole thing…freedom of religion…

    9. Vote -1 Vote +1schulzbrianr (UID#1277)

What does that have to do with anything here?

    10. Vote -1 Vote +1monkeybum (UID#1752)

I say let the nut-jobs have their “religion.” They’re easier to poke fun at when they are all grouped together.

    11. Vote -1 Vote +1Phyreblade (UID#1414)

OK, what is it with the crooked mustache?

    12. Vote -1 Vote +1Ando (UID#260)

      @ Phyreblade
It’s to make him look like Epic Fail Guy, I think. (google it if you don’t know)

I’d be going to the London one but I’m busy.
      :(
The difference between Scientology and other recognised religions (Scientology IS a recognised religion and has tax exempt status in many countries) lies in it’s aggressive tactics, brainwashing and blatant deceitfulness.

    13. Vote -1 Vote +1Caio (UID#104)

@ryu: There’s another thing. Go to a scientology library, and they’ll specifically tell you ‘We’re not a religion. We’re an alternative to therapy.” Fuckin hell.
      .
I didn’t say anything about the volcano or thetans or shit. Hail all the damned Xenus you want. I’m saying they need to tighten up civil law (something that needs to happen anyway) and start slapping multi-million dollar reckless litigation fines on the fuckers. Just because you invented some religion on your yacht doesn’t give you the right to debase the very foundations of the judicial system, and human society as a whole. Nor does it give you the right to torture a girl to death. Hail Xenu in the privacy of your own Church without suing or killing anybody damnit.

      @Ando
It’s the moustache taken from the Fawkesian mask worn by V, from the film V for Vendetta. If you haven’t seen the film, fucking watch it NOW! V is a Discordian.

    15. Vote -1 Vote +1mechiah (UID#1138)

i won’t be going to the anon protest. turns out, i’m not fourteen anymore

    16. Vote -1 Vote +1Professor Cramulus (UID#459)

This isn’t about freedom of religion. This is about a cult (well actually a corporation masquerading as a religion) which is responsible for numerous deaths, dissapearances, ideological terrorism, brainwashing, and a heaping spoonful of taking advantage of their followers. I have no problem with people believing whatever they want – but I don’t think you should have to pay for your beliefs. And if you choose to believe something else, members of your old religion shouldn’t go out of their way to fuck up your life. Which is par for the course for scientologists.

As for anon being a bunch of 14 year olds – check it out before you make your decision – the other protests in the country have been attended mostly by adults.

And by the way, the moustache and goatee is originally Guy Fawkes, a symbol of protest. This image has been coopted by V for Vendetta and Epic Fail Guy, but his original meaning is protest.
