Ron Paul looks great, but he’s running as a Republican. Right now I wouldn’t vote for the savior of the world if he were being backed by the Republicans, much less Ron Paul. Sorry, am I the ONLY person out there that remembers George W Bush is also Republican? And before it’s brought up, yes I KNOW Ron Paul is essentially a libertarian, so why is he running as a Republican and not a Democrat? Nope, don’t trust them. Not at all!

Besides, Ron Paul doesn’t have anything in common with Democrats ESPECIALLY HIS STANCE ON BIG GOVERNMENT. Democratic policy is leaning towards socialism in healthcare and welfare benefits (foodstamps WIC etc.) Ron Paul thinks all those government agencies should go to hell in a handbasket. You really don’t know Ron Paul that well then.
Ron Paul knows that his only chance to become president is to run as a Republican. That’s all there is to it. He’s a refreshingly good candidate even though the previous candidate for the same party was the dumbest son-of-a-bitch that has ever been president.
That looks more like Wesley Clark. Paul is much older and wrinkly than that image in the poster.

Ron Paus is definitely NOT backed by the republican party, anyway. if he were, then more people would have heard of him, and the Republican Party would have a very viable candidate. Romney is as wooden as Al Gore, and Mccain is a retarded (height & mentally) shit.

the main differences between Ron Paul & the other ‘republicans’ is three-fold:
first, he is all about small government and personal liberties. he beleives in the individual, while all the pirates from all the parties are about sponging off of you and telling you how to live.
secondly and thirdly (because they are so closely linked), RP wants to end the US empire and policing the world; and fix the $ and the economy. We are in 130 countries around the world. we spend 1 trillion dollars annually on our overseas empire (1trillion=a stack of $100 bills 631.33 miles high.) So bring the fucking troops home already, and quit taking my money to do it. BushCo. LIED us into the wars, and we are going bankrupt over it.
Also, the constitution says ONLY GOLD AND SILVER FOR MONEY, and ONLY CONGRESS CAN MAKE OUR MONEY.
today, the Federal Reserve Bank (a PRIVATE bank-NOT part of our government) prints our money. they started that in 1913, and took us completely off gold in 1971. Compared to 1913, the US $ is worth 4 fucking cents. if it was based on Gold, it would be worth nearly 4 dollars compared to just 6 years ago. (in 2002, gold=$250/oz. as of 1:30 today, 1/30/2008, gold = $935/oz.)

Wookie: Presidents, especially Republicans, traditionally don’t always follow the party line. The classic example of this was Eisenhower, who openly faught his party on any number of issues.

Why do people think giving power to the states will make things better? If the fed gov cant fix things, why will the state be any better?
I don’t equate this man with the Bush regime but I do think he would do more harm then good.
1) The federal government is a bit fucked in the day of TV. Have you noticed how bizarrely and unrealistically and prepreparidly every president and presidential canditate is nowadays? Do you think a guy in a wheelchair would make it nowadays? Or someone as straight-talking as Truman? Or as idealistically driven and earthy as Eisenhower? the issues in federal politics aren’t much more than catch phrases backed by some sterilyzed image. State politics have a bit of that, but they’re less circus. (except Cali and New York, obviously)

2) Band-aid solutions: What works in New York probably wont work for Canton, Ohio or Honalulu. Further more, what the people want in Alabama and what the people want in San Francisco is obviously very very different. By regionalizing power, not only are more people likely to be happy with the law/government, but you’re also less repressed by the tyranny of the majority. Smaller states can do their own thing more. Really, in a big democracy, regionalizing power is the only option.

3) Federal Democracy America’s greatest, oldest and most important contribution to humanity. May as well continue setting a positive example for the world in at least one area.

Competition: If I don’t like the policies in one state, I have a constitutional guarantee of the right to move from one to another.
Specialization: take education for instance, the educational system that is best for Washington may not be the best for Alabama, so why do we have federal programs like No Child Left Behind that dictate the exact same program for all states? Similarly for practically all social issues.
Accountability: Most of the people who actually run government are not elected. An individual has more opportunity to petition those non-elected officials if they actually live the in the same state. Further, state and local non-elected officials literally have to live with their own decisions and policies, something that less effect on the decisions of bureaucrats on the other side of the continent.

President != absolute monarch.
Even if RP was elected (and even as a supporter I think that’s unlikely) he would still have to work with congress to pass most of his reforms.
Best case scenario: Paul becomes President and vetoes most of draconian crap that’s passed by Congress each year and essentially keeps the federal government from getting to be more of a monster than it already is.
Best case realistic scenario: Paul gets enough votes in the primaries so that other candidates are forced to incorporate some of his issues into their platforms. Ross Perot did not come close to winning the election, but he made enough of a difference that a lot of his ideas (eg balanced budget) were picked up by the major parties.
