The third movie wasn’t bad they just made it so you can’t understand the full plot unless you watched the anime, bought the lunchbox, played both of the video games including the story-arc MMORPG, ate the cereal, bought the manga, and read the extra-special limited edition magazine.
The plot is not all in the movie it is scattered about the various sources.
Crass and commercial in a formerly anti-capitalist franchise? I don’t think so friend I think it artistically paints a compelling fictional world and it only cost me like $600 to figure out what all the gnosticism references had to do with the hackneyed cliche “humans are the real monsters” sci-fi ending.
