I thought funny cars were like extremely modified??
The only visual modifications on this car are the hood and wheels. And of coarse the stickers.
Not to mention it has some power under the hood but that’s not visible unless it’s doing a wheelie.
November 7, 2007 at 11:36 pm
serious?
Well i suppose i have to agree on your ignorance. Funny cars run like 5 sec quarters. this is not a funny car, but this looks like a mid-late 70′ Challenger doing high 9′s in the quarter. easily street legal in most states.
those stickers add 4.2 hp/ 6.3 tq a pop…
November 7, 2007 at 11:38 pm
upon further review i’m say its a 1970.
November 7, 2007 at 11:39 pm
Stock 1988 v8 mustangs get like 11 in the quarters…but then again it is 88 compared to 70 something
November 7, 2007 at 11:41 pm
The 9.90 on the windshield looks like they’re trying to dial in a run that matches it the closest. Yea, you know what I’m trying to say….
November 7, 2007 at 11:46 pm
Not really…are you trying to tell a joke?
To me it seems that 9.90 is the fastest time they have ever had.
November 8, 2007 at 12:01 am
you guys knows what a funny car is, right?
November 8, 2007 at 12:08 am
That’s not so funny.
November 8, 2007 at 12:22 am
dude casemods, the stock Shelby GT500 don’t even get 11 in the quarter.
Stock 88 mustang gt might run low-mid 15′s on the best of conditions.
November 8, 2007 at 12:50 am
b/c an 80′s 5.0 mustang is a piece of shit. thanks anti-smog laws. Mustang died with the 71, was then resurrected in 05.
About the car, the 9.90 is probably the trials it ran pre-race. Could be a track/event best or car best. It can mean a lottt of things. I know b/c I used to race my Twin Turb’d Audi. Maybe some of you others have racing experience, anyone?
And where do the gt and shelby fit in with their stock 1/4 times? That car is obviously modded, and if they rebuilt the frame and put the car on a diet (weight reduced it a ton), a 9.9 is easily within reach of an american muscle car.
November 8, 2007 at 3:00 am
Maybe that video was a modified 5.0…
And tiki, I thought funny cars were the huge, highly modified bodies
November 8, 2007 at 3:07 am
Since nobody has said it yet, I’m pretty sure that’s a Super Stock or Super Street class dragster. The 9.90 on the windshield is his dial in time, in bracket racing you try to get as close to that time as possible without going faster to win. Also the stickers add horsepower plus maybe some contingency cash.
November 8, 2007 at 3:11 am
Also yeah, funny cars = the body lifts up like how a hood normally would on a regular car.
November 8, 2007 at 10:33 am
…and they tell jokes.
November 8, 2007 at 10:55 am
Nobody will ever go camping with a
Nitro Burning Funny Car!
November 8, 2007 at 11:58 am
Its funny cuz lols look at teh back tire.
At high shutter speeds you’ll capture the outer part of the tire lagging behind the inner part. Bitchin’
November 8, 2007 at 1:15 pm
That would be early 70′s, as the last Challenger/Road Runner was made in 74. I drove a ’73. Got totalled in a crash. Not my fault. Certainly not at <5 MPH I was travelling. The full ton pickup with a full load of firewood that couldn’t stop on the ice however, was going a bit faster. :-O
I might even still have it today if it hadn’t been for that. One of the best cars I ever owned.
November 8, 2007 at 2:35 pm
The real question here is:
Will it take off?
November 8, 2007 at 8:58 pm
bytehead, that’s what sucks about older vehicles.
Even though my mustang isn’t really a “classic” in a sense, it’s still all stock with less then 80,000 miles.
I’m still pondering whether to fix it up and sell it or keep it in the garage till I’m 50.
November 8, 2007 at 9:48 pm
casemods, take it from somebody with experience, keep it. when you want to get a new car, instead of trading it in for a couple grand, or selling for 3 or so grand, empty all the fluids run the gas out of it, push it in the garage, get a new car, drop the mustangs insurance, and put a tarp over it
November 8, 2007 at 10:46 pm
knogoodidleft why the hell would I want to do that?
If I get a car it will be full electric…these gas prices are insane…that’s why I ride my bike.
November 10, 2007 at 11:19 am
i dunno, every time i think of my old truck i wish i never sold it, it got like 17mpg which is pretty decent for a 88 v8, it was a beautiful truck, sit real low, duals coming out both sides, fat ass treads, flared bed, black/red paint, sold it for $2000, wish i would of stored it.
get a prius.
November 21, 2007 at 5:00 am
The 9.90 is most likely his dial in time. Thats bracket racing, where you try to get as close to your time without “breaking out”(going faster). Whoever is closest wins.
BTW, i don’t even think ANY 80′s car ran 11′s stock, especially mustangs. The 5.0L Fox body’s run like mid 14′s to 15′s.
Just noticed ToeKnee posted the first part, he’s right. No on else here races?
November 25, 2007 at 2:33 am
People who race have lives.
