Robert De Niro in a ballerina dress. Enough said.

I absolutely adored this movie, especially Robert De Niro’s role.

I’m looking forward to The Golden Compass, myself. It has three things going for it:

      1) Armored bears. That’s right, armored fucking bears beating the shit out of each other.

      2) Nicole Kidman. Still hot, and looking fine in this movie.

      3) And most importantly–all the fundies who cried about Harry Potter being an evil anti-Christian movie are going to go absolutely ape-shit over this movie. An evil, parallel-universe Catholic Church and a main character who is fighting (and eventually wins) a war to kill god? I fully expect fundies to be dropping dead of apoplectic fits in the theaters. It is going to rule.

O man… I’ve actually read all the Golden Compass series a while back, and they really do whomp ass over religion in the last one. I’m not going to spoil it in case they do make a movie, but if they are, it’s going to be interesting to see the reaction.

De Niro looks tough even wearing that dress. Now that’s hard to do. Although I thought the end was… anticlimactic?

Don’t forget the fact that the universe refers to their little animal-spirit-conscience buddies as daemons. Right there on the page. That’s gonna freak someone out, all on its own. I bet it already has.

Armored bears and daemons all sound awfully familiar! Didnt know Northen Lights had a different name across the water, same happened with the philosophers stone, what gives???

I think they just renamed it to keep “parity” with the others: The Subtle Knife, The Amber Spyglass. They are both names of things–so calling the first book The Golden Compass maintains a consistent theme in the titles.

      lol fundies

Also, GC will have airships. If something I love with a passion, is airships. SOmeday I will direct a fucking 3 hour action-fantasy movie about fucking airships.
