I had a professor who started class by saying: “Ludwig Boltzmann, the father of thermodynamics died by is own hand in 1906. In 1933, Paul Ehrenfest, the chief architect of statistical mechanics, also took his own life. With this in mind we begin the task for studying thermodynamics and statistical mechanics.”

S = K Log W is the formula for entropy of a system. Boltzmann committed suicide after failing to convince contemporary scientists of the validity of the formula.
