Meh, half the problem is that VH1-ish baby-boomer bands set the president that concerts don’t have to make money, they’re for promotional use only. The music industry would still be a cash-cow with concerts, it’s just maybe those shows wouldn’t have giant walls and flying pigs and such.

Not to mention licensing. Do you know how much the artists/labels make when a song by a famous artist appears on an add or a movie? More than most of us will ever make in our lifetimes. Recently there was a Canadian movie called C.R.A.Z.Y., look it up. I believe that David Bowie made more off that film than the actors or the writer/director. The fact that we haven’t seen any major labels in the seven (?) years since napster came out probably says something.

Most artists make their money on ticket and merchandise sales, which you will buy if you are able to listen to their music and enjoy it via piracy. So, um, RIAA can shove it.

Because I download 90% of my music illegally, they are denied another ivory backscratcher… The argument can be made that if the ‘atrists’ were TRULY about the music, they wouldn’t care as much.

Stupidity kills music. How do they expect to compete with free mp3′s?
Its idiotic. I think artists should get paid but right now buying music over the internet is retarded. I can put mp3′s on my ipod, stream them over my network, access my collection remotely, hell even use my music as a damn ringtone for my phone if i want to.

And they’re trying to compete by offering me music that will only play in some god awfull retarded player like windows media player or some horible streamer that will stop playing after a month becouse they want it to?

If the music industry kills itself it will be stupid shit like this that will do it.
